010PHP: From Use Case to Implementation, using Behat

Out monthly meetup, with talks and drinks!

Herman Peeren will talk about Behat in this meeting:

"I want to show some BDD with Behat and some 'contextual encapsulation' inspired by DCI. My challenge is to get you as excited about it as I am."

We'll start the evening around 8PM, but there's never any harm in arriving early.

Also; we won't be meeting in a regular meeting place, opting for an informal setting without beamers and such, because of our last minute location change. Hopefully this will work out because we have a somewhat smaller group this time.

Really nice presentation (needs a proper ending, though :)) Love to see the slides again. I liked the "round table" setting; Was good for getting to know you all better. Thanks for the nice discussions.

Yesterday in the discussion about what to (unit)test I mentioned this video of a great presentation on Rails Conf 2013 by Sandi Metz: The Magic Tricks of Testing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=URSWYvyc42M

Summary: Tests are supposed to save us money. How is it, then, that many times they become millstones around our necks, gradually morphing into fragile, breakable things that raise the cost of change?
We write too many tests and we test the wrong kinds of things. This talk strips away the veil and offers simple, practical guidelines for choosing what to test and how to test it. Finding the right testing balance isn't magic, it's a magic trick; come and learn the secret of writing stable tests that protect your application at the lowest possible cost.

My slides from yesterday about Behavioral Driven Development with Behat: http://www.slideshare.net/HermanPeeren/behat-34469545

Summary: In order to improve the software development process you should use the language of the domain you are modeling. Behat, a tool for Behavior Driven Development in PHP, can help in the communication with the domain-expert / product-owner.

My presentation is work in progress and puts Behat (and Behavioral Driven Development in general) in a bigger frame: Agile, DDD, TDD and BDD. How to improve software development?

    Babs is not coming, unfortunately.

Ok guys, since we're a small group this time and unfortunatly the person who normally opens the door at InsightYou is sick in bed, we have to "divert" last minute.

We're going to be at Café Engels!!!!

Sorry for the terribly late change of location.

Last meet-up I spoke to some attendees about the GLR exposition. Anyone interested in seeing our student's work (including mine) is invited to come over for a drink on the 6th of May. http://glr.nl/netwerkborrel

More info will follow next week. If there is also a talk from CoolBlue (KISS and their framework): would be very nice, and then my talk will be max 30 minutes. If more time available then I can elaborate a bit more on a demo/example.
