Start 2012 off on the right foot with the 10,000 Steps A Day Challenge!
Walking is the easiest and most cost effective form of exercise that almost anyone can participate in.
The group will meet on the first Monday of each month at Lake Vasona (6pm) for a casual walk of 10,000 steps.
This group is for people that want to make a positive change in their health but need a little motivation and fun to make it happen.
Mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, friends, kids, relatives, seniors--anyone with two feet are all encouraged to join the group.
All fitness levels are welcome.
We will offer tips and tricks on how to meet the 10,000 steps a day quota on the Meetup forum (as well as other health and fitness info).
Did you know that walking 10,000 steps is equivalent to 5 miles? Walking 5 miles (even if you break it up to several walks a day) you will burn 500 calories? Walking 10,000 steps 7 days a week will burn 3500 calories which is 1 pound of fat! In three months of walking 10,000 steps a day, you could burn 12 pounds of fat! In one year of walking 10,000 steps a day, you could burn 48 pounds of fat! Sound too good to be true? Well, it's not---do the math.
Members are encouraged to utilize the forum where they will share how many steps they walked each and every day. Checking in with other members will keep you on track.
