Hi Everyone, Pip & I will be hosting February's meet-up & in stark contrast to the theme of the day we'll be choosing a book from the 'Crime' section of the Guardian's list. Hopefully seeing as it's mid week most people may have their romantic plans set for the weekend. Also I think it'll be nice for those of us who don't like, don't care or are fed up in general with Valentines. Please add your nominations from the Guardian's list as usual to the February discussion. I'll close nominations in a week or so, and add a poll for everyone to vote for their choice. http://www.guardian.c... http://www.guardian.c... http://www.guardian.c... As mentioned by Laura in the discussion for January's Book: "You'll also notice that we have now scheduled all meetup's up to July. After much discussion we are changing the format slightly, and will be scheduling meetups 6 months in advance from the New Year onwards. This gives people a chance to nominate something longer (a popular request) and also allows people who are very busy much longer to read the book. It will mean that over the next few weeks you'll see lots of discussions popping up for nominations for all of the categories- please only vote on the right discussion board else this will be a nightmare for me! Following this, we will work on a rolling cycle and will vote for August after January's meeting etc., one month at a time (just 6 months in advance!). Hopefully everyone will be happy with this slightly different system- and apologies in advance for asking you to nominate on all the categories at once, this is a one-off and after that it will be just one at a time as usual." I'm not a founding member of this meet-up group but have been attending regularly since the summer. Everyone has been so lovely & welcoming & I've enjoyed it so much I jumped at the chance to have a go at hosting This will be my first time as a host so be gentle with me :) Looking forward to seeing you all at the next meet up :) Anne
You could always nominate a book where the main plot revolves around a crime of passion ;)
Could we move jusst this one because it is on Valentine's Day?
Hi Ashley,
We did consider moving it but in the end thought it might be best to still do it on this day in the hope that perhaps most people would be doing their romance related things at the weekend. Also for any singletons (like myself) it'll be a good alternative to escape the seasonal smaltchz :)
We'll all have a chat & maybe a vote at the next meet-up, if the general consensus is to move it then we'll reschedule :)
Oh I don't know @Richard Ings, Crime and Passion and all that? ;-)
Is this where we nominate books? If it is, how about Donna Tartt's The Secret History?
Oops-- looks like The Talented Mr Ripley's already been decided on? Sorry, new here...
Hi Maria,
Not to worry, we've picked the next 6 months of books over the last month or so to give everyone a chance to nominate longer books & have time to read them.
We're quite an easy going group & it also means people can choose when to come. A discussion will start after January's meeting that you'll be able to take part in & help choose Augusts book. This way we'll always have a rolling 6 months of books chosen. Hope that's ok. Thanks so much for your enthusiasm. Warm Regards, Anne 😊

Is it not too cheesy, given the coincidence of dates, to suggest that the theme for this one might be "Love"...? :)
