Fowler-Hillard Hut Trip

This cabin is south of Vail off Hwy 24 by Camp Hale.  It sleeps 16.  It's about a 5 mile trek to the cabin in hilly terrain.  For those who have not done one of these trips before, I encourage you to go to huts.org to learn more about the amenities offered.  Basically what you need is food, a sleeping bag, skis/snowshoes and an adventurous spirit.  Huts usually have games, reading material, incredible views, beds with mattresses, firewood, stove and oven, cooking utensils, outhouses, solar powered lights and a lot of interesting, random people.

Everyone is responsible for making their own reservation for the night of 12/7 with 10th Mountain Division [masked]).

If we get any cancellations, I'll just start at the top of the waiting list.

    Heya folks,

Just to follow up, Dynafit was amazing with their warranty service and I just received a new heel and toe unit today. Back on the skis as soon as I get them installed!

If folks are interested in my Dynafit failure, here's the closest thing I've found that might explain what happened. My hyperextension did happen while I was going down into the initial creek...I wonder if I caught it on something..

Awesome job Dave. You deserve honorable mention for coming up with the hut trip idea in the first place. Till next time!

This time of the year, the ski traffic isn't too bad. Next week is forecast to be pretty cold, so people might be a bit lazy.

We will begin the hike from the Pando trailhead which is about 2 hrs from the Evergreen Walmart just off I70 at Exit 252. I haven't had the pleasure of driving in ski traffic on 70 in awhile so does anyone know what traffic is like at that time? If still likely heavy, I'd prefer to start at 7. Thoughts? I believe we will have a full hut of 16 baring any cancellations.

I will be going up on skis. Anyone that plans to ski should have beacon, shovel & probe (and know how to use them).

The last time I did one of these (at Jackal just to the south), the person in our group with skis was having difficulty on the hills and it took awhile for him to get his skins off and back on. He was probably wishing he was on shoes like the rest of us. However, these are ski-in cabins, so if you're good on skis and going up and down narrow trails on hills, you'll probably be faster than the rest of us.

Unfortunately no dogs allowed. I'd love to bring my guy, but since all the drinking water at the huts is collected snow, its kind of a hygiene issue. Nobody wants to drink the yellow snow!

Hi Dave! Thanks for putting this together. As you saw, I originally signed up under the Colorado Scramblers. I just completed my profile here and have confirmed reservations w/ the Mtn Division. I'm looking forward to meeting everyone! It will be my first CO Hut trip! Woot-woot!

Any of the available huts at this link (http://www.huts.org/getPage.php...) except for Skinner, Eiseman or Polar would be good candidates for the first week.

Hey Dave, I'm not very familiar with the hut system. It looks like there a lot to choose from, did you have a route in mind?
