Hike Harvard (14,420ft) & Columbia (14,073ft)

I work weekends and I rarely get to attend Sat/Sun hikes, so I'm putting together this weekday trip for people who want to check a couple more 14ers off their list! Here's the plan:

EXPERIENCED HIKERS ONLY!

You must have climbed a 14er before, have all the necessary gear, and be in good shape. The weather demands we summit quickly so if you do not have a fast hiking pace, this is NOT the hike for you. We will be hiking the South Slopes Route, so expect nearly 14 miles RT and 6,100' elevation gain. For us as a group, plan to meet at the Trailhead before 5am. This is a long hike so we will need to be on the trail and moving as close to 5am as possible. If you get there later than that, we will already be on the trail and you will need to catch up. Trailhead is the N. Cottonwood Creek Trailhead. Details can be found here:

I am planning on camping at the trailhead Tuesday night so message me to coordinate if you'd like to join me then. As this is June in Colorado, our summiting is dependant on the weather. As no 14'er is worth a human life, we will be cautious. Columbia will be attempted as long as the weather holds well once we summit Harvard. If you have any questions, please email me but get excited, this looks to be a beautiful hike :)

I'm glad we all went our paces to meet at the final summit. Wish I knew we were all out there before the end.

Sorry we missed you guys at the start. But it was great that we all summited around the same time :) so out groups went out perfectly! Hope to meetup and hike again! I have a few weeks left, so please let me know. I was thinking of doing Shavano/tabeguache next week (mid-week) and would love a hiking buddy!

I will be leaving at 5 pm from DTC today to camp at the TH. Are there any waivers that need to be signed for this hike?

Think I'm going to join the Harvard/Columbia fun. I'm not sure what my schedule is for Tuesday yet, so I will plan on seeing whoever is camping sometime before dark in Horn Fork Basin. Looking forward to it!

What time are people from north denver area leaving on Tuesday? I'd love to carpool but have prior engagements that I may need to move around if people are leaving early-ish.

Sounds good to me. Let me know where you want to meet at. I live in Westminster so anywhere in the area is great.

I would love to do this hike with you, but I'm going to wait a few days to sign up since I'm doing Grays and Torreys tomorrow (Friday) - Lincoln, Cameron, Bross, & Democrat on Monday - and Bierstadt on Tuesday! I'm in if I'm not completely BEAT!

Also, I live in Thornton as well so I would be in for a carpool.

Sorry, who's leading? And you can rent gear from REI if anyone else wants to do backpacking (I saw Vince's comment). I'm coming from the highlands Ranch area.

Oh OK, that's good to know! I've rented snowshoes there but wasn't aware of the camping stuff. I'm still debating when to go. If I wind up renting camping gear, could I catch a ride to the TH / campsite if you're going out on Tuesday? I live in Arvada but could meet down by Highlands Ranch.

OK perfect, I'll have it figured out in a day or two & let you know. Thank you!

I have a doctors appt tomorrow to check out a small injury I have. If the doc gives me the okay, I'm in for carpooling Chrystin and I say we backpack in.

I would like to hike during the week more. If anyone from the group would like to join on other adventures/backpacking/multi-day trips to farther ranges, let me know!

I am a definite maybe for this trip. Sounds great, but need to move some other stuff around before being a definite definite.

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
