Go Skydiving!

http://www.skydivedelmarva.com/purchase.php

I am a licensed skydiver and have jumped at Skydive Delmarva last summer. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vLYrwRSBwOA https://www.facebook.com/skydive.delmarva When you make your deposit, the time for the jump is 10am. Please say you are with the meetup group organized by Ben Payne. Also say whether you want to get video of your jump (extra cost).

Safety

The staff of Skydive Delmarva is professional and friendly. I felt safe during my jumps there.

Your chance of fatality during the tandem is about the same as your chance of fatality driving to and from the dropzone.

Math for fatality driving to/from dropzone:

(32367 deaths/year)/(3.03*(10^12) miles/year) * 212 miles =[masked] deaths/(roundtrip between Catonsville and Skydive Delmarva) Math for fatality for driving 1 year (assuming you drive 10,000 miles per year):

(32367 deaths/year)/(3.03*(10^12) miles/year) * 10,000 miles =[masked] deaths/year Math for fatality during tandem:

(0.003 deaths)/(1000 jumps) =[masked] deaths/(tandem jump) To summarize, you are as likely to die on the road to and from the dropzone as you are at the dropzone. Put another way, you are 35 times more likely to die on the road than the risk you are taking jumping once this year!

[masked]/[masked] = 35.6 Citations:

Sorry I missed you guys. Was in the AFF class all day. Did my first jump at sunset, and it was epic!

Everyone else -- if you plan on coming Saturday June 7, to Laurel, DE you'll need to make a deposit ASAP. The dropzone operator says only Andy made a reservation.

I'm carpooling up with 3 girls; we should be up around 10am.

Blue skies guys :) enjoy your jumps today. I'm going to Skydive Orange tomorrow.

Unfortunately, I need to back out of this jump. Still very much on the bucket list. Next time!!

I would like to carpool to the dropzone in Laurel, DE. One possible place to meet up is the Sears Auto Center in Annapolis, MD. The dropzone is 1.5 hours from there. We would meet at the Sears Auto Center parking lot at 8am. Please reply here if that works or does not for you

If anyone wants to go on Sunday-let me know. I can't do Saturday.

I'm going to Skydive Orange on Sunday since I'm attending a grad ceremony on Saturday. Blue skies!

I changed my mind about going.

    Anyone else doing AFF?

    May 23, 2014

    • Andy

This will be my first jump.

      May 24, 2014

    • Jen

Good luck with the AFF progression Andy. I'm going to head down to Orange on the 7th. I just got my reserve re packed and I'm ready to go. You'll never look at the sky the same way again :)

Wish I could make it this is definitely on my list

  • Lacey

so... do you have to go tandem your first time?

    April 28, 2014

    • Jen

Why did you guys choose Delmarva over Skydive Orange? Just curious?

      May 22, 2014

    • Andy

I was thinking the same thing, so I called and will be doing an AFF jump for my first one. Care to join me?

      May 29, 2014

  • Jen

Skydive Orange is just over an hour away from me and Delmarva is 3 hrs away. I think I'll end up going to Orange. Does Delmarva offer group discounts or something Orange doesn't?

    May 23, 2014

    • Ben P.

The reason I'm going to Skydive Delmarva rather than other dropzones is because it's registered with USPA. Skydive Orange is also a USPA member: http://www.uspa.org/F...

I would love to go to this if it is indeed in MD. Is it in MD or DE?

    May 23, 2014

      Laurel, DE

Ok, well in that case, I won't be able to attend. I've done it before and it was BY FAR THE MOST exhilarating thing I have ever done.

Oh? It's in DE? In the listing on this site it says "Laurel, MD."

    May 23, 2014

I am scared, but excited too!!

Does it hurt your ears? As I'm currently having some ear problems. ;-)

    April 28, 2014

    • Ben P.

You fly to 10,000 feet in an unpressurized cabin. You are only at that altitude for a few minutes

      April 28, 2014

    • Jen

I would recommend using Sudafed (pseudo ephedrine) and Afrin nasal spray a few hours before jumping. I've had some ear problems (pain, fluid behind the ear drum) from the abrupt altitude changes of jumping but these normally help a lot.

Oh, I don't mean the plane ride. I can get ear planes if my ears clog and that's no worries. I'm talking about the sky dive itself. Does the speed of the fall hurt your ears (or any other body part, for that matter:-))

No. George h w bush jumped on his 85th birthday.

The address should state DE, not Laurel, MD

From how high is the free fall?

    March 31, 2014

    • Ben P.
