Hi and welcome!
I'm starting this group to get all the people in Omaha who are interested in transitioning to a clean energy economy together. Anyone interested in the environment, renewable energy, or climate change should join!
1Sky is a national group started in 2007 with the sole purpose of passing strong climate legislation.
Our climate is in crisis and millions—maybe billions of people’s lives around the world are threatened. Nebraska is at risk too. The average temperature in the state is projected to go up 10 degrees by 2100 with no action. That means were looking at an average daily high June, July and August of close to 100 degrees! If we take moderate action and keep the increase to 3 degrees, we're still looking at at decrease in soybean crop yields of 30-45%.
But it doesn't have to be this way. We can live in a world powered by renewable energy (and Nebraska has the 6th most renewable energy potential of any state in the country) and live in a sustainable world.
This fall is the most important time in this fight's history. The Senate is going to vote on a bill this fall that could put a limit on pollution and CO2 emissions. We need this bill in order to move quickly enough to stop the worst effects of climate change.
Ben Nelson is going to be a key in what's sure to be a tight vote. That’s why we’re starting a grassroots movement here in Omaha to let him know how we feel. He’ll see us when he opens the local paper and sees letters to the editor, he’ll hear us when his staffers tell him that someone dropped off 500 postcards in support of clean energy at his office, and he wont be able to ignore us when there’s a hundred people rallying outside of his office. Together we can make this happen, and we need as many people as possible to help.
The best thing you can do is sign up for this group and get in contact with me to hear more about what we’re going to do and how you can help out.
I look forward to meeting you!
Jaafar
