Book club with pizza: "The Jungle" by Upton Sinclair

Several people have recommended this book to me, and from what little I've read about it, it's as topical now as ever; exploring themes of immigration, worker's rights, humane treatment of animals, and food safety.

Looks like you can read it for free several places online, including the link below, if you don't want to buy it or borrow from a library:

If enough people RSVP "Yes" then we'll meet for a book club discussion on the date shown.  But I'm not sure how many bookworms we have in the Group, so if there are insufficient "Yes" RSVPs then I'll cancel.  So don't be shy - if interested then RSVP "Yes."  If this book club meeting is well-attended then maybe we can get book club events rolling on a regular basis.

Romeo's has good pizza and is BYOB with a wine & liquor shop next door if anyone wants.

Hi, I just learned about the book club meetup today. I haven't read the book, but wanted to join anyway to enjoy the company, discussion and pizza. Is that cool? Or should I have actually read the book to join today's meetup? Thx!

Haha. There's a big vegan conference in Princeton next weekend if y'all are squeamish about animal-based foods:)

I won't be able to make it, but does anyone else think it's a bit odd to have pizza while discussing the book that inspired the FDA because of how horrible its descriptions of food preparation were, or is it just me?

I was hoping we wouldn't be discussing the book at all and just have pizza with wine.

This is a good book so far, but also a depressing one! I've made it about 3/4 and I am giving up (too depressing) and checking the internet to see how it ends. Haha. If you're like me and can't make it all the way through, don't worry, come to the discussion and pizza anyway.

Is it bad that after reading half the book...I still had a burger? :(...

But the burger was from MC D. Soooo who knows if it actually is meat..(ok- no more talk about my burger... :(....)

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
