Hike: Round Valley Recreation Area, meet at "South Lot" near sign in photo below

UPDATE - Due to the large number of members attending, I moved the meeting spot to a bigger parking lot to fit all of our cars.  See updated details below.

Dress in warm layers and bring drinks and snacks.  Please be punctual.  Park info and rules:

Meet by the Cushetunk Trail sign.  We will hike approximately 6 miles on the Cushetunk Trail.  It's not a loop trail, so we'll do about 3 miles In and then return on the same section.

It's winter, so this hike is weather dependent.  Check the event page the morning of the hike to confirm it's still a Go.  Fingers crossed it's sunny and clear.

Great hike, funny conversations, and a good lunch. Weather even brightened and warmed. No better way to spend a winter Saturday.

Hi everybody. Bail out if u need to. Life is always an adventure, that's for sure. I'm gonna still go and give it a shot, and maybe shorten the hike miles depending on the conditions up there.

    • Jennifer

      I'm still planning on going.

I'm still on planning on coming as well though, it's snowing out here so I'll be driving a little slower. I may be a few late and from the looks of it I don't think I'll phone access.

By me it's snow pellets but the roads are just wet.

Fyi, I'm in Bridgewater and it's light snow, but weather report says it should be done by hike time. All I have is sneakers, hopefully it's not too snowy or muddy there.

With the large size of the hiking group (37), are there any plans to split the group into two sections for the hike to keep the hike moving along?
From past hiking and hike leading experience, gets hard to manage a group over 20 people.

Car pooling: I'll be leaving from North Brunswick and driving past New Brunswick and Highland Park on my way to Rt 287N. If anyone wants to meet along that path and catch a ride then post here. I can take up to 3 other people with me.

  • Candace

I think 6 miles of this trail will be good :)

  • James

Thanks for the info, Elisabeth. I guess Round Valley hasn't updated their trail info on the website. Sounds like a good time if you'd love to go back. We will see what we all feel like hiking when we get there, definitely some of the Cushetunk Trail though because the other trails look too short based on their descriptions. And remind me to take a look at the camping sites, because I'd like to do a camping meetup sometime in the future. :)

Hi James! I hiked Round Valley a couple of weeks ago, and you can hike almost around the entire perimeter (about 9 miles). It was a very nice hike, with some good hills. The section of the trail you're proposing to hike is relatively easy, and was the flattest part of the whole hike. Not sure if that's what you wanted. Either way, I'm in. I'd love to go back.
