Let's Play Party Board Games (Word Games & Fun Trivia)!

I would like to schedule an afternoon weekend board game day when we play games such as Scattergories, Apples to Apples, Imagine Iff, Trivial Pursuit JR, Last Word, Taboo, Cranium, Scruples, Balderdash Jr, and so on. Some Scene It games are fun as well (Friends, Seinfeld, Music Trivia etc...) but they require a TV and DVD player and I don't know of a comfy public place that offers this. Though they can also just be played w/out the DVD if you have the games to bring.

Please make a comment below if you have games to bring — and which ones, thanks!

This was a lot of fun, and I'd love to go to another one, there were lots of recent Portland transplants, like myself!

Cool games with some of the nicest people I've met in Portland so far. Will attend again!

I look forward to meeting everyone today! Please don't forget to bring your game(s) if you're bringing any. Also, you may want to put your name on it so someone bringing the same game may not accidentally take it. Lastly, I ask that everyone take good care of each others games, with food and liquids around. Let's support Lucky Lab too. Their food menu is below, they also have "kajillions" of beers as they say. See you guys soon!

Hey! So I have a new game called bezzerwizzer (I know its weird) but havent played it yet. Its a trivia game but seems to have alot more to it than just like trivia pursuit. So it might be good.
Also have Bolderdash, scattergories, monopoly. And a game called liars dice which mainly just uses ALOT of dice haha but its a really cool game too.
So I can bring any or all of those depending how many more you need or would like, just let me know :)

Also just curious, does anyone here play settlers of catan?

All those games sound great if you don't mind bringing Josh! :) Always better to have more games than not enough. Thank you!

Hey so I can drive and meet anywhere but just to put in my vote, I live in sw so that is the best area for me.

    1 · April 8, 2013

    • Betsy

Thanks Josh for bringing games. It's great to see people rsvp'ing, but I wouldn't be me if I didn't worry about there being enough games lol. I live in SW myself and will try to rotate the game meetup to different locations around town that will suit our needs. I wish one of the 2 Multnomah locations worked, but I will find some :)

      April 8, 2013

    • Betsy

I forgot the NOT. Meant to say: I worry about there not being enough games for everyone to play that wants to. Hopefully won't be an issue.

      April 8, 2013

  • Josh

And ill check what games I got and post it here to. Can't wait to meet some new people!

Hi everyone, thank you for the comments. I am still working on finding a place for us. It's tricky as a lot of places want us to either reserve a large section for a lot of money, or agree to a minimum amount of purchases. So all I know for sure at this moment is that it will be in the afternoon when it's not so busy. Sunday may be an easier day to get space too. My concern is not having enough games to play for the amount of people expressing interest. P.S. Before posting here I searched for board game meetups and they all seemed to be dedicated to something called "Euro Games." I thought it was odd there are no meetup groups for fun party games.

I'll totally bring my "Game of REAL Life" for anyone that wants to play!

      1 · April 6, 2013

    • Betsy

Thanks Jade! Can you please bring your other games you mentioned below too, but only if it's not too much trouble? I heard that cards against humanity was especially popular.

I was also able to get Apples to Apples over at Goodwill along with My Word! (party word game).

    1 · April 3, 2013

    • Betsy

Yey thank you very much Nicole! I will bring a couple games as well :)

      2 · April 6, 2013

The venue is right near me, so I will be there on Sunday. I will try to visit Goodwill this week to find games, so if there's any game people particularly want, let me know and I'll try to find it.

I could bring Cranium, Uno, and Trivial Pursuit 80s. I live in the Alphabet District and work downtown, so those locations would work best. There's a park near here that looks like a good option, but I don't know if you want to go the outdoor route.

    1 · March 24, 2013

    • Betsy

On a warm day then yes, outdoors is great!

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I called all the places mentioned; Lucky Lab on NW Quimby, Tuggboat, Old Market Pub Brewery & Lucky Lab both in Multnomah & Lucky Lab on Hawthorne. As much as I like the idea of Multnomah as it's close to me, it appears for now that Lucky Lab on Quimby is best for our group. Now that a date, time and place is posted, please make sure to update your RSVP & indicate too what games you will bring. I look forward to meeting you guys!

How about Old Market Pub and Brewery? Its SW Multnomah and SW Garden Home RD in Southwest Portland. They have a large meeting area in the back with a few tables.

    1 · March 31, 2013

  • Katie

There's a bar called Tugboat that already has a ton of games there--that might be fun! Then we can bring our own too.

    1 · March 25, 2013

Put me as a maybe depending on where and when. I have a plethora of games I could bring.

    1 · March 25, 2013

I would be interested in something that was downtown or NW close-in. I like games like cards against humanity, apples to apples, taboo, I have the game of REAL life, which is fun but takes awhile to play, and may contain themes inappropriate for those of a delicate constitution, lol

    1 · March 25, 2013

If its in Portland city and not the burbs, Hells yeah

This sounds like so much fun! I live in SW Portland it would be awesome if it took place near SW or downtown? SE takes so long to get to by bus :) I just moved back to Portland I look forward to meeting new people and having good time :)

Depending on the date and location I would definitely be in. I have a couple of games to add to the mix as well.

I have tons of these types of games and love playing them. Lucky Lab is always a good venue for this sort of thing...
(Apples to Apples, Wise and Otherwise, Scrabble, Beyond Balderdash, Spot it, Jungle Speed, Catch Phrase....)

I would be interested! I just moved to Portland so I left all my games at home to pack light but I would be willing to buy one if people were interested. I like all types such as carcassonne, settlers of catan, and the classics (i.e. monopoly). I have no preference where we meet.

my schedule is often crazy - it would depend on the date-time - but this sounds like fun! i don't have any firm suggestions, though i THINK i've seen game meetups scheduled at the lucky lab before ...
