One day, we will live in a world where every person has a real chance to live the lives we dream of. Where all life, has the freedom, opportunities, resources needed, to be happy, healthy and honourable.
Loving the life you live, by filling it with laughter, learning & living an optimal life, will leave a lasting legacy. Doing so, will help you live, the life you dream of.
I believe that one day, this ideal world will exist. My belief is sustained by my practice, walking the talk, as an advocate, consumer, volunteer and my work.
Workwise, I'm intransigently, passionately idealistic, social entrepreneur (generally defined as creating a people/planet positive organization) and devoting the rest of my life, in a myriad of ways, to help create a better world and making the maximum difference I can.
Life tries to teach us all and I've learned somewhat recently & reluctantly, that creating a better world, is greatly helped by taking care of oneself.
In that spirit, I aim to lead a hiking group on each Sunday, so that we can all recharge our batteries, enjoy these beautiful outdoors, feel great, get some exercise, fresh air and meet some wonderful people. The hiking location will be different each week, and will be easy to medium.
With this event, we will be going to Lynn Canyon Suspension Bridge,
I would like to kindly suggest that we spend most of our time and talk about our:
- favorite cause,
- what we're passionate about,
- what is our core competence/skill set and
- what kind of personal goals you have, that you would like to share with someone.
1. If you are someone like me ie..doing what good you can, best way you know how, and sometimes hit the wall, then you definitely need to make time for something like this.
2. If you have a 9 to 5 job, pays the bills, generally satisfied with life but feel like you can do more with life. More with life, by making a difference to some cause, then I feel like this event will be a great way to explore different ways of doing what good you can.
3. If you are someone who hasn't yet figured out what you're passionate about, what you're good at, or where you want to make a difference, then I especially want to invite you. Sometimes we discover our passions, grow our skills and achieve difference-making activities, by being surrounded and inspired by people who have found what makes them tick.
I feel that bringing these 3 groups of people, sharing this outdoorsy activity together will be a great way of giving and getting, while doing some good.
To live an optimally healthy & happy life, requires disease prevention thru quality nutrition, regular fitness, positive relationships, good sleeping patterns, strong support systems, managing stress. These and other factors are critical components of living a full, healthy, happy life.
Approximately, from 10:00am to approx 10:30am, we'll chat with each other, get to know each other a little bit better, arrange for carpooling and have a yummy for the tummy veganlicious smoothie. From 10:30 am to approx 3:00 pm, we'll be driving to a hiking destination and enjoy these great outdoors of ours through a wonderful hike. At 3pmish, after our hike is completed, we'll head off to a restaurant and enjoy a good meal and better connect with each other.
At 10:00am, I would like us to meet at Buddha, http://www.buddha-full.ca/#!__page-0. It's a locally owned business, on the North Shore, that mostly sells local, vegan, organic food. Buying from locally owned restaurants is great because it keeps more of our money in our community. Vegan because plant-based foods usually have a better impact on our health, esp prior to a hike and more environmentally friendly than non-vegan by-products. Organic is great because toxins/chemicals/pesticides in the foods, that we put into our body, aren't going to help us be big & strong when we grow up.
At 10:30 am we take off and drive to a local hiking/mountain trail that we will conquer, one step at a time. It will be an easy to medium hike, we will take frequent breaks and have many chances to chat with each other, along our journey. Take photographs, be silly, talk, enjoy our beautiful outdoors and relax.
Note: On May 19th, 13 people went to Deep Cove's Quarry Rock and along the way there were lots of dogs. Each of whom I felt the need to greet, by saying `Woof Woof' and hugging them as much as their owners would let me. So expect our journey to be delayed if lots of doggies are walking the trails...Moreover, when I say woof-woof, sometimes, the bowwow's, esp the young ones, looked at me with a silly, giggly look on their face. Other times, the bowwows, esp the older ones, looked at me, sighed and shook their head at me.... It's interesting, that doggie behaviour, on a generational basis, roughly mimics human behaviour, on the same generational basis.
If you feel like you want to end the hike a little bit early, ie sore knees or something, then i'm going to insist that someone from the group volunteer and accompany you back to the parking lot. No one is walking back alone. We stay as a group or when necessary, separate in pairs. I rather err on the side of safety. Please abide by this and please volunteer to help someone back. Thank You in advance for complying with this.
At approx, 4:00 pm, we will have an early dinner at Tao Organics, http://taoorganics.com/ Like Buddha, this is also a locally owned, vegan, organic place. I feel like at least on one day of the week, we should eat super healthy, be super happy and super honourablest as possible. I feel like that will be super;-)
Might as well be Sunday. I would like to support you and give you the opportunity to eat food that works optimally well for our bodies, is optimally positive for the environment and tastes uber yummy for the tummy. Emphasis on the uber, yeah baby:-)
I recommend, that if pre-hike you have an early breakfast, or post-hike a late dinner, that you find something that is also local, vegan and organic. For just one day of the week, try to eat as healthy & environmentally friendly as you can. It's a great way to heal the body/soul, fill up your tank, feel fulfilled and be fully engaged for workday Monday.
If you set that goal. Eating local, vegan, organic foods on Sunday, then along the way, you will find great ideas for yummy for the tummy vegan recipes and you will feel great. We need at least one day of the week to really help our body recover from the less than good food or fast foods we eat and prepare for the week ahead. And if you naturally wonder, where will you get your protein from?? Then I suggest, you try to think of the largest four-legged or two-legged animal. And ask them where they get their protein from too:-)
To help protect our environment, limited parking available, and high cost of fuel, it is recommended that we carpool whenever possible. While the group does not endorse any formal policy, it is typically suggested that passengers offer the driver $5.00 per half hour of driving (includes mileage and vehicle wear & tear). However, private arrangements between passenger(s) and driver may be made ahead of time. Please note in your RSVP whether you can offer a ride or need a ride, and where you will be coming from. Passengers, please ensure you show up on time and bring an extra bag for wet/muddy footwear and clothing.
Please do not leave carpooling arrangements until the last minute. The organizer is not responsible for arranging carpooling opportunities on your behalf - that is strictly the responsibility of every individual member. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
Please note that we are not a professional organization nor a group composed of trained professional guides. This group is run entirely on the efforts of volunteers and the active participation of members. The success of each event depends on the cooperation & efforts of every member who participates. Although we always make an effort to look out for one another, to the best of our ability, each of us is nevertheless responsible for our own safety and well-being during every event. By RSVPing "yes" for this event, you acknowledge and accept these terms.
Also, I am not connected to any religious, political, small biz or corporate organization. Nor do I want anyone to offer me money or buy a coffee. Past 6 hikes, that has happened a couple of times. I will say Thank You, but No. If you insist, then I will suggest you donate what you want to some global micro-finance cause or local homeless cause. I'm doing this event, because I want to. And it makes me feel good. I hope to meet like-minded people, doing or on the path to doing good in our community, city and country. So i really am getting a lot more than I am giving.
Also, I'm not great at the event planning or have a good memory. If i were to plan my own surprise birthday party, I would forget to show up. But if i do show up, then I still might be surprised. And would probably forget to buy myself a present.
So I will probably forget your name. And I will probably forget to apologize, so i will apologize in advance, if this is not a perfect event. And if you're dissatisfied with the hike, then I will offer a full refund of your money plus 25%.
Note: there is no fee for the hike
Note: By RSVPing for the following event, you have read and agreed to the 20's & 30's Cool Things To Meetup waiver form and rules for events/activities in its entirety. Please read the form in its' entirety at the following link http://www.meetup.com/20s-30s-Cool-Things-To-Do-Meetup/about/
And most important, Have fun, Laugh lots and Stay Safe..
