The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot

Her name was Henrietta Lacks, but scientists know her as HeLa. She was a poor black tobacco farmer whose cells—taken without her knowledge in 1951—became one of the most important tools in medicine, vital for developing the polio vaccine, cloning, gene mapping, in vitro fertilization, and more. Henrietta’s cells have been bought and sold by the billions, yet she remains virtually unknown, and her family can’t afford health insurance.

Lots of discussion, all of it on-topic. Enjoyed this month's meetup a lot!

Attendance iffy. Hubby sick so I have to see how he feels at 3. Or bring toddler with me and leave if he doesn't go into anthropologist mode, but that's probably a bad idea with so many attendees.

Sorry I won't be able to make it. Looking at getting a kitten or a cat . Only time that Claire and I are off at the same time.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
