20s and 30s Geek Couples in Denver Message Board › A Message From Your New Fearless Leaders (Please Read!)
Closed to new replies
Hello to our fellow geeks!
You may remember getting an email from Wendy and Brendan a few weeks back looking for people to become the new fearless leaders of our group. They are busy planning their wedding (congratulations!) and felt that it was time to pass on the group to another couple--but don't worry, they'll still be around! We (Lindsay :) and Joshua) have decided to take on the role of Group Organizers. We are super excited about this and have some great things in store for all of you. (Also, just a quick note: We have had about 20 new members join within the last month--woohoo--go us! We are up to 138 members--'Thank you!'--we wouldn't have a group without all of you!)
Please read the information below, as some of it is new (sorry it's long! We just want to make sure everyone is on the same page):
There is fee organizers pay to Meetup.com in order to keep the group running-this fee has been paid by Wendy and Brendan this past year. Being that we are both teachers, Josh and I thought it would be nice if everyone could take a bit of ownership in the group and help by paying $1 every three months. If everyone pays, we will have more than enough to cover the organizer fee ($45/3 months). All of the money left over will go directly back to the group in various ways, i.e. snacks, new games to raffle off at meetups, drinks, etc. If you'd like to give more than $1, it is certainly welcome--it would go straight back to the group as well. The link to pay online is on the lefthand bar, underneath where it says 'Our calendar'. It says 'Group member fee: $1 At Your Earliest Convenience.' Click on that and it should take you to PayPal (we will accept cash in person, but would prefer for you to pay online--it's easier to track that way). Please pay it, it allows us to keep the group functioning and doing fun things.
We have set up a poll to find out where most of you live or would be willing to travel to to attend meetups. We live in Denver, but know that a good amount of you live in the suburbs. We want to make sure that we plan meetups that fit nicely into your schedule and you don't have to drive out of your way to get to them.
That transitions to the next part...
We would really like for you guys to suggest meetups--things you're interested in doing, in locations you want to either stay in, or go to. We will be suggesting some, but we may not always know of everything that's going on, or perhaps have different geeky interests, and think it would be great for you all to be involved with decision making. Also, please let us know if you are willing to open your house or apartment to host a meetup (we can help with bringing snacks with the leftover money from group dues). Just so you are aware, if you are wanting to host, we can place a cap on how many people attend if that helps with the space concern. Also, people are more likely to RSVP 'Yes' if there is a date/time/location posted on the event, so just keep that in mind when suggesting meetups. If you need help with a location, post in the comments section of the event and hopefully someone else can throw in some ideas.
We know that life happens--things come up and you can't always attend everything you want to. We do ask that if something comes up, please try to change your RSVP so the hosts know about how many people are coming..especially if there is a cap on the number of attendees. Also, if you want to attend something (and we hope that you do!), please RSVP 'Yes'. It helps us plan for enough space to accommodate everyone.
So please pay your dues as soon as you, and check out the poll for Meetup locations. Suggest Meetups whenever you'd like, and please come out to some of the ones that are already posted.
If you have any questions/comments/concerns, or just want to say 'hi', please email us! We look forward to meeting all of you!
Your new fearless leaders,
Lindsay and Josh
