Book Discussion of "The Haunting of Hill House" & "Call of Cthulhu"

"First published in 1959, Shirley Jackson's The Haunting of Hill House has been hailed as a perfect work of unnerving terror. It is the story of four seekers who arrive at a notoriously unfriendly pile called Hill House: Dr. Montague, an occult scholar looking for solid evidence of a "haunting"; Theodora, his lighthearted assistant; Eleanor, a friendless, fragile young woman well acquainted with poltergeists; and Luke, the future heir of Hill House. At first, their stay seems destined to be merely a spooky encounter with inexplicable phenomena. But Hill House is gathering its powers-and soon it will choose one of them to make its own."

We are also reading H. P. Lovecraft's short story "Call of Cthulhu" which can be found here for free:

Sorry I wasn't there. I had a client meeting come up. I missed you guys! I'm with Lauren, though...I was not a big fan of the book and really had to push myself to finish:-)

A fruitful conversation centered on two well-chosen works of art, with booze! In other words, the pinnacle of perfection.
As a newcomer, I really appreciated how you regulars made me feel welcome, which is not always the case with meetup. You are a great group of people. I look forward to future events!

I'm sorry I didn't make it (and didn't let you know)! I had an appointment that ran late. :( I also have to admit that I did not enjoy the book - and didn't even finish it. I had a really hard time getting into it. I'm looking forward to hearing what the next book is and I will see you at the next meeting!

That movie had a lot of stars... Catherine Zeta Jones, etc. It was probably one of the worst movies I've ever seen, probably because Bruce Willy wasn't in it. The plot was good, but the script was terrible. I'd like to try the book to get the sour taste of the movie out of my mouth.

We're there multiple Liam Neeson's in that movie? I thought there was only one, but I could be wrong.

Anybody remember the movie based on this book with Owen Wilson and Liam Neesons?
