Charity Happy Hour at Cafe Asia!

*** Note this location is the one in DC, not VA! ***

*** It's a great day for happy hour! See you tonight! ***

UPDATE #3: Drink specials are $4 Corona, $5 20s & 30s Asian Superstar drinks, and $6 house wine until 8pm!

UPDATE #2: Per my email, I need volunteers to help sign people in with name tags and to meet / greet folks! This is a great way to meet people, and help kick start a friendly vibe to the event. I need volunteers to fill 30 minute slots (which goes by very fast) on the hour.  If you can help, please send me an email (go to my Meetup profile, and click “Send Email”) letting me know which top three time slots you prefer, in order of preference (do not post a comment on the event posting)!

UPDATE #1: Looks like this will be a good one! So tell a friend, come on out, meet new people, and help support a good cause! And again, I encourage everyone to have a GOAL OF MEETING 3 NEW PEOPLE!

Okay, time to get together for our next happy hour!

Our happy hour will benefit DC APA Film... www.apafilm.org... a nonprofit organization that produces the annual DC APA Film Festival with the mission to bring attention to the creative output from Asian Pacific American (APA) communities and encourage the artistic development of APA films in the greater Washington, D.C. metropolitan region... suggested $5 - 10 cash donation. Please note 80% of donations go to DC APA Film and 20% of donations will go to the 20s & 30s Asian Going Out Group to cover Meetup fees and expenses.

DJ Saam will be spinning loungy groovy beats for us. Our happy hours typically bring out 150 - 200 folks... and I wouldn't be surprised with a similar turnout this time around.

If you haven't been there before, Cafe Asia puts a modern spin on everything from presentation to performance. Well known for it's pan Asian cuisine, it also houses two large full service bars! 21+

To help continue the friendly tone of this group, I'd like to again encourage each person to have a GOAL OF MEETING 3 NEW PEOPLE at this event. To help do this, for an icebreaker, we'll put your name in a jar as you walk in, and then give you someone else's name from the jar. Also, 20s & 30s Asian Rockstars, please help make all the newcomers feel welcome to our group!

Metro and Parking

Closest Metro is Farragut West (Orange / Blue lines), I suggest Metro / cabbing it (especially during rush hour). I also recommend using wmata.com for travel plans. Don't forget to account for Metro, traffic, and parking delays. If you are driving, you will need to find street parking or a garage.

Dress

Most people will be coming from work, so business casual will be the norm.

Special Needs

If you have any special needs (e.g. wheelchair, dietary for events with food included, etc.), let us know in advance (a week or more before the event) and we will do our best to accommodate. If you let us know the day of the event, we cannot guarantee that we will be able to accommodate. Thank you for understanding and we appreciate the courtesy of a heads up!

It was a good night to meet new people. The music was a bit loud to hear others talking or have a conversation.

This morning news mentioned that Cafe Asia is having their Liquor licence suspended due to Saturday's incident http://wapo.st/1sljko0 . Not sure if this impacts the meetup

Hilario, as I suspected, the venue is good to go. So the event is a go, see you there!

Are women invited? Usually 90% guys at these events.

    • J.T.

Pat, of course they are invited. The emphasis of this event is to raise funds for a great APA nonprofit organization, DC APA Film, not to be concerned about gender ratio. Please keep in mind, this is a social networking group, not a singles group. That said, I've never seen a 90/10 ratio at any of our happy hour events. It's typically 60/40 men:women, and likely due to there being more Asian men than women in the DC area. Our group is 55/45 men:women per our poll here... http://www.meetup.com.... In looking at the RSVP list, the ratio seems balanced. If you're concerned with having more women at events you attend, then please consider joining events outside of happy hours. Just my personal observation, more women tend to go to events such as painting classes, cooking classes, and realistic self defense workshops that I also host. Or consider joining other Meetup groups where they're concerned about gender ratio. I hope to see you there!
