Movie: Snow Flower and the Secret Fan

***** Important Update *****

UPDATE

1.  Let's try to meet at 6:30.  I will be the guy in the YELLOW shirt (my pink shirt is in the laundry).

2.  I just had two wisdom teeth removed yesterday but I will try to be a cheerful host.

3.  As far as a post-movie meetup place, I was thinking we could walk to Clyde's near the Verizon Center.

Hello everyone. I am going to substitute for Vi as host for this event.  I look forward to seeing everyone and talking with you about the movie and the book if you read it.  This will be my first time to host an event.  Here are some details.

1. Please note everyone is responsible for purchasing their own ticket.  Tickets can be purchased online at https://tickets.landmarktheatres.com/Ticket...

2.  Let's meet in the lobby of the cinema, organize, and sit in the same general area.  I do not have a meetup  sign but I will try to make my self noticeable in the lobby, e.g., guy with red hair and a pink shirt.

3. Following the movie, we can try to re-group and make our way to a place in Chinatown for drinks and discussion.   The movie is based on Lisa See's book.  I would be interested to know what people think about how the characters in the book are presented in the movie.

4. Please re-confirm your RSVP.

I enjoyed this movie, it was heart warming. We got together at Asian 9 restaurant nearby after the movie - It was a great way to spend the evening.

An overall bad movie -- poor script, immature directing, manufactured acting, and sluggish cinematography. If you read the book, you don't need to see the movie. It is not the same thing.

Hey all, I'm new to the group. I've been wanting to join in an event for a while now, sadly work ends much later than most of the posted events. If there is a post-movie event, I'm definitely keen on getting in on it.

I am looking for a post-movie plans as well, maybe we can get a group together and hit a dance club instead of just a drinking bar --- I do not know of a good dance club in DC .... any suggestions? ....

There is a free jazz concert at the National Gallery of Art Sculpture Garden on Friday before the movie. The concert is from 5 to 830. About a 5 or 6 block walk to Landmark E street theater.

You can buy tickets now online for the 7pm show. If we go to hardrock cafe make a reservation for 9pm. Or could walk to Chinatown after the show it is not that far.

    July 20, 2011

  • Jin

what do tuys think of the hard rock cafe for after the movie...dinner and drinks i can make the reservation?

    July 20, 2011

i'm looking forward to seeing this movie, even though a few friends already told me the story. (not naming names: Duo-Duo) :-)

There are not as many places to meet by the theater. I would recommend Gordon Biersch on 9th street , Coco Sala on F street , or maybe Hardrock Cafe before or after the movie.

Any plans to meetup for dinner afterwards? Any interest or suggestions?

    July 17, 2011

  • Jin

buy tickets early...if you like, there is a 7:30 showing of Harry Potter in 3D....i'm told it's going to be really crowded.....i will be rolling the dice and taking a chance on finding something different....i'll probably be SOL and end up having to see some indie slasher flick, but who knows. here's the link to the new meetup...http://www.20sand30sasiangroup.com/events/25503581/?action=detail&eventId=25503581

Let's please clear up some confusion. Are there now two meetups scheduled at Ping Pong, one on Saturday, July 16 @ 5:00 and another meetup, also at Ping Pong, on Friday, July 22 @ 5:30?

    July 12, 2011

  • Shaun

If it comes out next week, any plans to reschedule this event?

    July 12, 2011

  • Jon

See you guys at 5:30 for Dim Sum. Since nobody has mentioned the address of Ping Pong yet, just to let everyone know, it is 900 7th. Street NW.

    July 12, 2011

  • Jin

here's what i will for sure do on the 16th...be at ping pong @5:30, then in front of chinatown theatre @ 7:30, then asia nine @10:00....please don't leave me and lindel twisting in the wind or will hunt you all down and force feed you dim sum..hahaha just kidding..(sort of)..can you all email me if you interested in part or all of the plan so i can gauge interest. [masked] thanx

    July 12, 2011

  • Jin

here's my suggestion...continue on with dim sum at ping pong...then go see a different movie at the same theater on 7th st.(chinatown regal cinema) since it's so close to ping pong. we can either all go see the same flick or break off and see different movies...then on to asia nine bar and lounge on 7th street...all events on the same street..woo hoo. any way, anyone who didn't rsvp for dim sum can meet us in front of the theatre at 7:30. here's my cell again[masked]

The Secret Flower viewing got pushed back a week, but since we have organized already for this Saturday, why don't we go see the new Harry Potter movie?

    July 12, 2011

  • Tony

There is this place called "SkyDome" at the Double Tree Hilton Hotel in Crystal City. It is a nice lounge with a nice view of DC and the floor spins so you will see a full viewin real time while sitting. There is DJ music and a nice dance floor. Not a big place may need reservations.

The movie was cancelled. We should do somthingesle after dinner. any suggestion???
