Spring is finally here! Celebrate the arrival of the season with a unique look at the Nation's Capital from a perspective you just can't get on land at Key Bridge Boathouse (Formally Jack's Boathouse)
What to expect
As a group, we will set off with our trained safety guides from the dock and paddle past the Georgetown Harbor, Watergate, Kennedy Center, Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument and the Memorial Bridge leading into Arlington Cemetery. On our return we will paddle around Roosevelt Island and head towards the Three Sisters Islands.
As the sun does down the wildlife experience really kicks into full-gear. Folks have frequently seen eagles, beaver, turtles, night herons, fox and little deer babies.
The team at Key Bridge Boathouse will provide the instruction, safety information and provide you with a life-vest and paddle. All you need to do is show up with a good attitude and maybe a bottle of water.
When you arrive, you will be offered a choice between a one-person kayak, two-person kayak, or a canoe that holds up to three people. A lifevest, special light, paddle and brief "how-to" instruction.
While not mandatory, you should have some prior experience paddling and be physically capable of paddling for 90 minutes. Don't worry, there are canoes available as well for those who would prefer something a little easier. Sites that we will see include:
*Ok.. maybe not....
We do our best to leave the dock at exactly 6:30 PM and the tour should run until 8:30pm.
We strongly suggest that you arrive and check-in at the desk by 6:00 PM.
This event cost $45 per person. You will pay when you arrive on June 2nd.
Cancellation and Weather Policy
The weather on the Potomac can change quickly, so the site reserves the right to change our course and trip duration of the situation warrants. If the trip is cancelled, we will reschedule for another available time.
The site has portajohns, a nice "hang-out" area where you chill out, picnic tables and free gas grills, a changing room and lockers for rent ($2.00). We even have an out door shower to rinse off. Water and soft drinks are for sale, but its cheaper to bring your own.
The site has limited parking area for about 15 cars. It is first-come... There is pretty good metered street parking available. There is a parking garage that offers special evening rates next to the Lowe's Theatre a couple of blocks away.
A wise paddler would really try and take the metro or bike. We are a 15 minute walk from the Rossyln Metro stop right over the bridge. Really, it is the best way to get to go!
