*** Great day to learn how to bartend! See you there! ***
UPDATE #4: There are still 8 spots left, so you may claim a spot by arriving early with exact cash. Also, there are usually 3 no-shows for this event, so you just might be able to join us. Make sure to come early with exact cash.
UPDATE #3: The early-bird price has ended and the ticket price is now $50. Looking forward to seeing you there!
UPDATE #2: We've been able to extend the early bird price! The first 30 paid sign-ups, or those who pay before Thurs. Feb. 27th (whichever comes first) get the early bird price! After that, the ticket price will go to $50.
UPDATE #1: There are 9 early bird spots left and the price will increase from $40 to $50 when the early bird spots are gone or before Sun. Feb. 23rd (whichever comes first). To be fair to those who want to join in and are ready to make payment, I'll be removing those that haven't paid by Sun. Feb. 16th. So make payment to *truly* lock in your spot. I hope to see you there!
Some of you know I bartended at Ultrabar (1000+ person bar / club) every weekend for fun for the longest time.
Wonder how I got started? Well, I took an intense 5 week course from Professional Bartending School in Arlington, and became a certified bartender. If you've ever thought it'd be fun to try bartending... well, here's your chance!
I have made special arrangements with the Professional Bartending School (one of DC's most respected bartending schools) and recruited Jewels Kennedy, a certified bartender with 14 years direct bartending experience, to show us what it's like to be a bartender. Join us for this informative, interactive, and fun 3 hour introductory seminar and hands on (yes, HANDS ON!) training class as we:
• Learn how to make 30+ of the most popular and requested drinks, shooters, martinis, and specialty drinks such as Irish Eyes cocktail just in time for St. Patty's Day, Blue Hawaiian, Kamikaze, Woo Woo, White Russian, Long Island, to name a few.
• Are provided with the highest quality instruction
• Train under simulated barroom conditions using a full range of bar tools and equipment.
• Learn about glassware
• Learn different methods of mixing
• Learn various cocktail recipes
• Learn bartending tricks
• Learn how to handle a crowded bar
• We'll each get $150 credit we can use towards their full certification course
As soon as we walk into the school, we'll find it hard to believe that we are not in a real bar. The school is designed as a real bar. Whether we are a beginner or an experienced bartender, this course will help us gain a basic introductory insight into the exciting world of bartending.
We are privileged to have Jewels, who has 14 years direct bartending experience in some of the top bars, restaurants, and clubs in the DC area, as our instructor. Whether you've made bad decisions at Andalu in Dupont, let loose at Lux Lounge near the Washington Convention Center, or anywhere in between, chances are that Jewels has mixed you up a cold one.
Our class consists of 2 hours of lessons, followed by 1 hour of hands on bar training where we'll step behind a bar to practice our new skills, tips on techniques, and most importantly, what it feels like on the other side of the bar.
Please note that we will be using colored water to simulate the different liquors, we will *not* be using real liquor. No bartending school I know of uses real liquor for both liability and cost purposes. We will each practice and get to make 20 - 30 drinks. Can you imagine the state of each person and waste if real liquor was used? We are there to learn, not get inebriated. We can do that at home after we learned everything we need to!
We've got an early bird special for this event of $40! The first 25 paid sign-ups, or those who pay before Sun. Feb. 23rd (whichever comes first) get the early bird price! After that, the ticket price will go to $50. We have a LIMITED number of spots so make sure to RSVP early and make payment to get the early bird price!
Also please know that your RSVP is not guaranteed unless we receive payment. When you pay, your online receipt is confirmation that we have received your payment.
Come join us, tell a friend, and let's have a good time learning what it's like to be a bartender. Hope to see you there for this fun, informative, and interactive class!
Metro and Parking
A few blocks from the Courthouse Metro stop (Blue, Orange lines). We suggest Metro / cabbing if you can. We also recommend using wmata.com for travel planning. Don't forget to account for Metro and traffic delays. If you are driving, you will need to find street parking or a garage.
Payment Instructions (Paypal account not required):
Please follow the instructions below for making payment (if payment by smartphone doesn't work, please try your computer). Payment at the door will be permitted only should the event not sell out. Most of our events do sell out, so we recommend you secure your spot online early. If you make payment for less than the current ticketed price without prior correspondence, your RSVP will be removed.
1. Select "Yes" under "Will you attend?"
2. Enter the number of guests coming and click "Finish RSVP"
3. Click "Pay Now" at the top of the event posting near the ticket price per person
4. Verify correct dollar amount for number of people you're paying for, click "Pay Now" button
5. If you don't have a Paypal account, click "Pay with a Debit or Credit Card"
6. If you have a Paypal account, simply log in, and pay as you normally would via Paypal
We will have a master list of all those that have paid. It’s not required, but I recommend printing out your payment confirmation as a backup. When you check-in, your RSVP will be listed under the name of the Paypal or credit card account used to make payment. Typically, this is your LEGAL name as shown on your driver's license. Sometimes, it may be under a company name if you set up your Paypal or credit card account that way. If you are not sure what it is, please take a moment to log into your Paypal account (it will say "Welcome, [your account name]" at the top) or your credit card account to find out. If you are RSVP'd under someone else's payment, please use that name for check-in.
Refund Policy & Ticket Resell
Since we paid in advance for this event, all sales are final unless the event is cancelled or rescheduled. Similar to a concert ticket or a football game ticket, you are free to sell your ticket to someone else if you are unable to attend. I suggest posting in the comment box for the event, that you have a ticket for sale. Work out payment between yourselves, and send the organizer an email through their Meetup profile (do not comment in the comment box) letting us know the full name and Meetup profile URL (if a member) of the person taking your spot. Thanks for understanding. =)
