Discovery Cycle and the Evolution of Consciousness (Mini Meetup)

This location is shown only to members

In these critical times the solution to our problems lies deeper than a single answer to any particular challenge. Our world is too complex and too interconnected for superficial answers. We need to address the underlying context for how we deal with problems and approach all of life. We need to change at the deepest level of ourselves, at the level of consciousness itself.

On September 9th there is a mini meetup on the disintegrating world order that might result because of the crisis of resources in the 21st century. How will we cope and what can be done collectively and through the organisations of our society.

This meetup is about what we can do ourselves. Will human nature in crisis descend to a damaging selfishness or can consciousness be raised to another level that is positive? The Discovery Cycle is a process for transformation based on the realization that consciousness and culture are one—that our interiors affect the exterior, and vice versa - and that who we are isn't separate from the 14-billion-year epic of cosmic evolution.

Designed to galvanize the process of inner and outer change in our individual and collective lives, the Discovery Cycle recognizes the constant interplay between inner awakening and outer engagement, between being and becoming.

Kyrsten Perry and Patrick Bryson will facilitate the mini meet-up discussion, which will explore the Discovery Cycle, its potential for changing the world for the better, and the implications of recognizing that we live in an evolving universe.

I found the meeting a little disappointing - but mingling afterwards was interesting and inspiring. It made me wonder whether the main meetings could be run slightly differently - perhaps giving everyone an opportunity to share something briefly - their personal experience, their questions, etc. I find it inspiring to learn from people's experience - whereas 'debates' can gravitate towards one-upmanship. The Quakers have a type of meeting called 'Meeting for Sharing' (I think) where we sit in a circle and everyone gets the chance to say something on the particular chosen topic, one at a time, uninterrupted with no response, until everyone who wants to speak has said something. Then people can speak again if they want to (again, one at a time). The advantages seem to be that everyone gets a chance to speak, everyone takes responsibility for what they say (they can't 'correct' themselves after), and everyone is giving the luxury of being 'heard' properly. Just an idea!
