Hump Day Sushi at Sushi-Thai Lake Boone

Says the camel: "Hey, do you know what day it is?" Come celebrate hump day with delicious sushi (or Thai) at the Sushi Thai Restaurant in Lake Boone Shopping Center in west Raleigh. It is easy to get to from almost all directions.

There is an extensive Japanese and Thai selection on the menu at reasonable prices. I am also partial to their Pad Thai. They have BOGO sushi all day so let's pig out!

I called the restaurant and they can to 16 patrons at one table so I raised the RSVPs to that number. Please be sure to revisit your RSVP and change to No if you realize you can't go. I need to let the adorable young lady at the restaurant know our final number the day before.

Very nice, name tags would have been helpful.

Place cards at tables would be great and easy to sort. What about things where people are moving around?

Clips and magnets work well too. The lanyards might disappear under the table line. Sorry that I hate to pin tags on some fabrics where permanent marks might remain.

Had a great time! Met interesting people and learned many new things, such as:
    Some sushi is cooked; the difference between Holland and the Netherlands; some places to see in Amsterdam; that there are other people born in Alabama in the Triangle; sushi restaurants to try out;
that group members enjoy silly comments from a new member.

We love our new members and new stories. Sorry that you were sitting too far away to politely chat with. Looking forward to getting to know all of our new members better.

Great idea Alan, but at this location the only bar was the sushi bar. I got there early and chatted with a few other customers while waiting until there were only a few seats left and then I moved to the table.

I think a great way to begin, might be to have a bit of socializing prior to being seated. That way we can learn a few names prior to seating. Perhaps 15 minutes at the bar last night would have worked well.
Then I could have chatted with additional people that ended up at the other end of the long table. Just suggesting.
Otherwise, I had a great time at a new venue.

Good idea. Perhaps we are too quick to go to tables when there is a bar where we can meet first. Thanks for the comments!

I agree, Alan. I got to get to know the people I was seated close to…but everyone else was too far away to even say hello too!

Excellent sushi at a great price. It was fun having so many new members!!! The disadvantage to having a large table is that you don't get to visit with everyone, but it is so much fun getting a large group together. Good choice Roger!

Nice to see the big turnout. This is my regular sushi place since it is near my house so I hope you all enjoyed it.

I have changed the RSVP so that you can update. Please change your RSVP to No if you aren't coming this evening to the event. I'll let the restaurant know sometime this afternoon how many to expect so they can set up the tables before we get there.

I've had a bit of a cold, but am feeling better today. Some wasabi is just what my head needs.

From what I can gather about the POTUS schedule (it probably isn't published) he will be visiting the RTP around lunchtime, then giving a speech around 1 at NCSU. I-40 will be completely closed when he is being transported to and fro. My feeling is that he will be back in DC by the time we need to travel to the restaurant, but I will update you all if something changes.

I would like to attend if there is still an opening!

I can walk to the restaurant from my house, love it!

The schedule for the President's speech at NC State on Wednesday has not been announced as of Monday afternoon. It is possible that there will be no traffic concerns with the sushi event, but please monitor the news and be prepared to detour if necessary. I'll update this as more information is released.

I'd love to go hear his speech!

The camel joke was about the very popular commercial with the camel and hump day. This is the description of it from CBS. http://youtu.be/CAM8iJTbzRI

      its my favorite commercial

Please note that POTUS is coming into town that day so traffic could get very weird. The schedule has not been announced yet. Hopefully, he will be back on Air Force 1 and out of town before we need to get to the restaurant. I make no promises if he wants sushi.
