Potluck Lunch and Raleigh-Wake County Home Remodelers Tour

Last year, my house remodel project was on the Raleigh-Wake County Remodelers Tour and it was a very fun and exhausting weekend. This year the tour is on April 26th and 27th and I am looking forward to getting out to see the other places rather than stand around and greet 350 people walking through my house. The tour is totally free and you just drive around to the locations to see what was renovated. Some are large renovations and some are small like a single bathroom. Some are landscaping and some are fairly massive home additions. Kitchens and bathrooms are most likely on the list.

You can visit all the places or just those that you want to see. There are details and PDF documents on the site as the date nears. (Check out the "Details Page" for PDFs of each remodel.) The list of contractors and the map of locations are now current as of March 11th.

We will have a pot luck at my house before we head out to visit the houses. (Location will be emailed to attendees nearer the event.) One cluster of locations are in the Glenwood area which is very close. Another wider cluster is to the west in Cary and Apex. After lunch, we will head out in different directions depending on who wants to see what. For example, I'll be checking out kitchens and bathrooms for my future renovations.

Since this is going to be one of those unusual events, we may make up the rules as we go along. People can self-organize if they want to continue socializing afterwards.

Roger, thanks for so generously hosting us. We enjoyed the tour. We found #8 was very well done although they have a dining room that was over the top large for the size of the house. Overall a fun afternoon!

We enjoyed it as well. Went to 5 places and are going to another 3 tomorrow. Thanks, Roger, for bringing this to our attention. I definitely learned a few things and got some ideas.

Potluck at Roger's was perfect! The home tour too inspiring...makes me think again about doing more with this house.

As always everyone is friendly and great to be with. It is great to get together to learn from each other's experiences. Thanks Roger for having us. Great idea to see remodeled homes and talk to the companies and designers that do them.

Thanks to all who came out for the potluck and the remodelers tour. I had a great time and I hope people got some great ideas and contacts for their next project. I definitely had a range of thoughts about the houses I saw. My favorite was #7 on Sturbridge Court. I loved that kitchen area.

I am soooo sorry to cancel, but I'm afraid you guys might not want to be around me since I'm coming down with a cold. I really, really wanted to do the tour with you. (And now you'll have to do without my wonderful spinach salad.)

Roger - I hate to be so obtuse, but not sure how to access your address for Saturday's pot luck lunch. I would like to attend the tour with our group if tha's ok.

I plan to send out a message to all those signed up this afternoon sometime. I normally wait since people will RSVP up to the last minute. Generally, I am off of Ridge Road in west Raleigh. The event is open to all members of the group.

I moved the start time to Noon to meet at my house for a pot luck lunch. We will leave for our adventures in house remodeling at 1 pm. If some don't want to eat, just come over a little before 1 pm.

More information is now available about the home tour. I updated the text and added a link to the map. We will do pot luck at my house before we head out.

Are you sure it's free? Usually $5 paid at the first home you visit.

Cate, you may be thinking of the larger Parade of Homes or some other house tour. I don't think there was any cost involved (unless you hire a contractor of course.) :) I'll ask my contractor about it and post it here if I am wrong about that.

I heard from my contractor that they haven't charged anything for the tour in a number of years.

This sounds great, Is the idea to look at remodel homes and find the contractor that did the job to perhaps remodel our property?

    February 20, 2014

    • Roger A.

The tour is definitely a marketing opportunity for the remodeling council members. They will host the different locations and will lead people around the properties. My experience as a host was that the contractors were showing the workmanship to prospective clients. Most attendees were folks looking to renovate in the future and go on the tour to get ideas. Other people are usually neighbors curious to see what was done. Still more people were past clients of the renovator who go every year. I was told that I was now in a new social group of past clients! For a lot of people, it is a fun outing just to see other people's houses. The absolute best thing about this was my house was clean and staged very nicely for the first and last time since! :)

Add Philip. This is up our alley. Or better yet our home. The 1960 look is great but. We need a kitchen job. Thanks.

I put a +1 on your RSVP for Phillip.
