Sips N Cinema is a fun event hosted by the Victoria International Film Festival. I go every year. $25 for film/drink samples/discussion (and sometimes appies). Super deal.
First you go see the film. Then meet for a professionally led tasting and discussion of the film hosted by festival programmer Donovan Aikman. Film: 2pm Vic Theatre, followed by wine tasting, appies at 10 Acres Bistro
These events always SELL OUT. So get your tix ahead. Festival membership is $2. Please don't drink and drive. http://victoriafilmfestival.com/2014-festival/events-796/sips-n-cinema
In 1986 McDonald's announced it would raise its golden arches in Rome, next to the Spanish Steps. The proposal fired up the activist Carlo Petrini who assailed the burger giant with combative questions. He continued to rail and rally against the homogenization of cuisine and cultural identity, until finally three years later Slow Food was born, an international anti-fast-food resistance movement. Petrini is the ambassador for thinking about food differently. In Slow Food Story, first time director Stefano Sardo does a delightful job of creating something uniquely Italian – vivacious and animated – and not so much about a movement, as about life itself.
