Charity Happy Hour at Current!

  • April 19, 2013 · 6:00 PM

*** It's a great day for happy hour! See you tonight! ***

UPDATE #3: Drink specials are $4 Corona Lights, $5 30s & 40s Superstar drinks, and $6 house wine until 8pm!

UPDATE #2: Per my email, I need volunteers to help sign people in with name tags and to meet / greet folks! This is a great way to meet people, and help kick start a friendly vibe to the event. I need volunteers to fill 30 minute slots (which goes by very fast) on the hour. If you can help, please send me an email letting me know which top three time slots you prefer (in order of preference)!

UPDATE # 1: Looks like this will be a good one! So tell a friend, come on out, meet new people, and help support a good cause! And again, I encourage everyone to have a GOAL OF MEETING 3 NEW PEOPLE!

--

Okay, time to get together for our next happy hour!

Our happy hour will benefit Quality Trust... www.dcqualitytrust.org ... a non-profit organization serving as a catalyst for change in the lives of people with developmental disabilities... suggested $10 donation. Please note 80% of donations go to the Quality Trust and 20% of donations will go to the 30s & 40s Going Out Group to cover Meetup fees and expenses.

DJ Saam will be spinning loungy groovy beats for us. Our happy hours typically bring out 150 - 200 folks... and I wouldn't be surprised with a similar turnout this time around.

If you haven't been there before, Current was recently completely renovated and offers a sophisticated retro-chic feel with a sleek lounge atmosphere! 21+

To help continue the friendly tone of this group... I'd like to again encourage each person to have a GOAL OF MEETING 3 NEW PEOPLE at this event. To help do this, for an icebreaker, we'll put your name in a jar as you walk in, and then give you someone else's name from the jar. Also, 30s & 40s Rockstars, please help make all the newcomers feel welcome to our group!

Metro and Parking

Closest Metro is Dupont Circle (Red Line) & Farragut North (Red Line), I suggest metro / cabbing it (esp. during rush hour). I also recommend using wmata for travel plans. Don't forget to account for Metro and traffic delays. If you are driving, you will need to find street parking or a garage.

Absolutely bring friends. I usually volunteer to work the front door for the first half hour or so but thereafter I would be happy to demonstrate how to start or join a conversation to anyone who wants pointers. I'll summarize here if you want to practice ahead of time: 1. smile 2. say something 3. listen. Keep doing number 1 and repeat the other two as appropriate. If that seem difficult just remember this event is attended by friendly people who came out that night to interact with other people. I can't wait to see you all there.

I am bringing a friend so I think should be ok to bring a handful even !

    April 3, 2013

  • Chris H.

I would say just talk similarly to how you would at work, among friends, or in any other social situation. You'll be fine! It's a very relaxed, "normal" group -- and it's not all single people, BTW.

    interesting answer
