I saw this band perform a few years ago and really enjoyed their music, so I thought it would be great to hear them again, but this time, outdoors.

Strathmore in Bethesda will be having their 4th FREE Summer Outdoor Concert for 2013. Performing on this date will be Alma Tropicalia, who combines traditional Brazilian rhythms with the sounds of psychedelic pop—equal parts samba, bossa nova, and rock~n~roll. Alma Tropicalia’s lead singer is Elin, a renowned jazz vocalist and master of Brazilian styles, who has toured the world and led her own groups at top jazz clubs.
If you have never heard of Alma Tropicalia, you can listen to their music here.

This free show will be held on the lawn in front of the Mansion, which is next to the Strathmore Music Center in Bethesda.

Food will be for sale on the grounds by the Restaurant Associates BBQ Shack – some of which include pulled pork, hamburgers, cheeseburgers, hot dogs, chips, cookies, fruit cups, sodas, beer and wine. There is also a Ben & Jerry’s ice cream truck.

To really enjoy the show, you will need to bring a chair or blanket to sit on. You are also more than welcomed to bring your own food as well (no alcohol). No pets are allowed.

PLEASE NOTE: I have added a question to the event when I created it, so please provide your answer when prompted. You will only see this question if you RSVP through your computer (vs phone). If you decide not to provide an answer to the question, note that I will be updating the RSVP's regularly.

This event is metro accessible – across the street from the Grosvenor-Strathmore Metro Station (red line) – http://www.wmata.com/rail/station_detail.cfm?station_id=14.

Parking for this event is located at the Grosvenor-Strathmore Metro Parking Garage at a cost of $5 when you exit the garage. For more info and directions, click here: http://www.strathmore.org/planyourvisit/directionsparking.asp, and follow the info posted for "Free Outdoor Concert and Special Event Parking". There is also limited short-term metered parking on Tuckerman Lane up to 7pm at $1 per hour (3 hours max); after 7pm it is free.

This event will be held rain or shine. If it rains around the time of the event, I will let you know where the show will be held.

I apologize for being a lackluster participant tonight. I unexpectedly ran into friends who I haven't seen in a while (right next to our group) and it became awkward not to talk to/sit with them, and then I had to leave. Gail, thank you for planning the event. Hopefully, I'll make it to another event soon and be more sociable!

For those that are coming late, my chair is labeled everywhere...so you can see from a distance the 30s/40s Meetup signs. If you are coming or not, please add a comment or update your status. We have been able to save some spots. Thank You.
