CBPSN, we need your help to feed our community in the Washington Park area.

The Coppin Memorial A.M.E. Church and Coppin Community Center has been serving the the south side of Chicago for the last 95 years. It currently operates a food pantry in the Washington Park neighborhood for neighbors in need every Monday night.  Come volunteer and help distribute food to families and seniors. Share some kindness with a neighbor and renew their hope.

The main volunteer event time is 5:45 pm to 8:15 pm. But help is also needed if you can come a little earlier with setting up food on the table.  We can use volunteers as early as  4:30 pm in the evening shift.

There is also an opportunity to help in the morning with unloading and sorting food from the delivery truck. They have started a new food rescue program and receives about 4000 pounds of food from local grocery stores.   Help is needed from 10:30 am to 2 pm.  Please see the other Meetup post for more details.

Location: 5627 S. Michigan Ave, Chicago, IL 60637

Main Volunteer Event time: 5:45 pm to 8:15 pm.

There are plenty of free street parking and there is also a church parking lot across the street from the Community Center.

Tasks and event times:

10:30 am to 2:00 pm - Help unload food from the delivery van

4:30 pm-6:00 pm - Set-up food tables prior to distribution

Main volunteer event:

5:45 pm - 8:00 pm - Food distribution to clients

8:00 pm to 8:15 pm - Break-down and clean up after client distribution

Note: When Spring comes, we will also have new volunteer opportunities to help them build a community vegetable garden and feed even more people.

If you can volunteer earlier in the day on Monday between 10:30 am to 2:00 pm, they can also use volunteers to help unload their food delivery van from the Greater Chicago Food Depository pick up.  (Please see separate meetup post)

The first question which the priest and the Levite asked was: "If I stop to help this man, what will happen to me?" But... the good Samaritan reversed the question: "If I do not stop to help this man, what will happen to him?

“There comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular, but he must take it because conscience tells him it is right.”

“Never, never be afraid to do what's right, especially if the well-being of a person or animal is at stake. Society's punishments are small compared to the wounds we inflict on our soul when we look the other way.”

“Only in the darkness can you see the stars.”

“Everybody can be great...because anybody can serve. You don't have to have a college degree to serve. You don't have to make your subject and verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love.”
