About the Play
A modern-day play surrounding the stereotype of Angry Black Women. A dramatic and comical approach to addressing the harmful and damaging stereotypes affecting relationships, families and black communities.
Nyema, a young educated African American woman and owner of the "Black Folks do Read Bookstore" in the Bronzeville neighborhood finds herself confronted by several stereotypes of angry black woman. When hearing a local radio station badgering black women, she finds herself fuming. Bookstore employee (and the local comic relief) Jamison suggests she holds a open discussion at the bookstore. She holds the discussion inviting an array of characters from an elderly woman to and a aspiring Rapper with 6 children. The play brings drama, humor and realism to stereotypes of angry black women and much more...
