Sandance presents FLORENCE AND THE MACHINE

Sandance organisers have confirmed Florence and the Machine as the first headliner at their forthcoming festival on Friday 10th May, in association with Toyota. The rest of the line up is being kept a closely-guarded secret and will be announced act by act over the next couple of weeks.
The Florence news was announced at Atlantis Beach on Friday in a short video teaser played immediately after Noel Gallagher's memorable ‘Live @ Atlantis’ concert, drawing gasps of excitement and big cheer from the crowd. It will probably be Florence & The Machine's only live appearance this year as the indie rock band plan to take a year off from touring before working on a third studio album. It’s another coup for the Sandance team and arguably the standout act in a busy few months for live concerts in the region.
Florence and the Machine are currently one of the hottest acts on the planet on the back of two recent Calvin Harris remixes and consecutive number ones, 'Spectrum (Say My Name)' and 'Sweet Nothing', which still dominate radio waves and dancefloors around the world. These anthemic dance tracks have introduced the band's music to a much wider audience than their traditional indie-rock fanbase, and after two number one albums and numerous music awards, the band have already reached superstar status.
Led by singer Florence Welch and keyboard player Isabella "Machine" Summers, plus a collaboration of other artists that make up the backing band, Florence and the Machine's mesmerising songs are described as 'dark, robust and romantic'. Florence is certainly a unique and charismatic figure, compared vocally to female artists such as Kate Bush, PJ Harvey and Bjork.
The band's first two albums 'Lungs' and 'Ceremonials' both went to number one in the UK. Lungs won 'Best Album' at the 2010 Brit Awards and the band were also nominated for 'Best New Artist' at the Grammy's. On the back of the album, the band released their indie/rock version of the 1986 Candi Staton dance classic 'You Got The Love' which brought them mainstream success.
Florence and the Machine's second album, 'Ceremonials' went straight to number one in the UK and number six in the US. A remix of 'Spectrum (Say My Name)' by DJ and producer Calvin Harris (who was a Sandance headliner last year) became the band's first number one single, closely followed by a remix of 'Sweet Nothing' which was released on Calvin Harris' album '18 Months' and became Florence and the machine's second number one.
The band's success and stage presence has turned them into festival perfumers, having appeared at all the major festivals including Oxegen, T in the Park. Bestival and Glastonbury. They also opened for U2 on the North American leg of their world tour in 2011.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
