The future of 3D Printing

  • Aug 29, 2013 · 6:30 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Dear Makers,

after almost one year of extensive efforts within 3D Printing, it's time now to sit down and take a look at where we're all going.

That's why I'm delighted to invite you to an ambitious conference meetup, aiming at covering:

• Overview of the current 3D Printing sector and what to expect ?

• 3D Printing on the Financial Market : bubble or not bubble (by Sylvain Preumont, iMakr.VC)

• 3D Printing and its impact on the Educative sector (by Mark Bloomfield, University of Hertfordshire)

• 3D Printing and its impact on the Toy industry (by Erin Deighton, Design Thinking and Innovation)

• 3D Printing opportunities : new start-ups (MyMiniFactory, Fuel3D)

Moderation by a journalist from the Financial Times.

We'll have Questions & Answers after each presentation, to give everyone a chance to share our vision of the Future of 3D Printing.

After the talks, informal chats with canapes and drinks - what else?

Looking forward to sharing our thoughts together,

Sylvain Preumont

Hi Adeline, I sent you an email thorugh meetup however cannot tell if you have received it or replied through meetup - really enjoyed the event and found it highly informative.

Is it possible to get copies of the presentations, if so how do we go about it?

It was good. I would've really liked to see even more 3D printing startups. I believe most people who were there are quite convinced that 3D printing is the future, but more of us would like to explore various opportunities in 3D.

    September 8, 2013

    • Martin S.

Hi Greenie. We are a 3D start up based in London. If you want to talk / visit, please let me know. You can see details at www.itis3d.com.

Any Printrbot owners in the group? Would be nice to do an informal meet ;)

Thank you for hosting. It was very interesting to learn about the different aspect of sales figure and valuation about different 3d printer business. I was hoping to see and learn some detail about the real 3D printing in action. It would be also be easier to view the screen at a higher level or a bigger auditorium to view the speaker and the screen more clearly !

Hi, I am working for 3Dnatives, the most comprehensive website in France for 3D printing news. For those interested, we can manage some interviews and press coverage of your business for our french readers. Do not hesitate to come and introduce me your business tonight. Looking forward to it.

  • Martin S.

I enjoyed the event, and it was great to see so many interested people in one place at the same time. Pity I only got to meet a few of you; I could easily have carried on fascinating conversations and discussed future collaboration into the early hours.

If anyone is interested in what we do, please look us up (www.itis3d.com) and contact us at [masked]. Reminder - we bring 3D design, 3D scanning, 3D printing and 3D machining to the education sector.

Also, we are curating an exciting 3D printing zone at Technopop, which will be a pop up festival of future tech starting in March 2014 for 8 weeks, next to the Olympic Park in East London, with an anticipated 400,000 visitors, aimed particularly at inspiring kids. There will be lots of ways of getting involved, so again, please contact me if you want to find out more.

Excited to democratize cutting edge technology and offer it to any and all young people. Tomorrow I would love to meet anyone who can help/partner/guide on this.

+Mark Ledwold, you may be interested to know that rlab (Reading Hackspace - home of the TVRepRap) is already sourcing lasers powerful enough to give such sintering a go. +NickA Good tips, you sound like someone to pick the brains of :) The hackspace team are very good regarding H&S, but I will pass on that tip. I will mail you some details separately, before next week. Looking forward to the event.

      August 21, 2013

At my uni lots of work is being done on titanium printing. You should be able to find a supplier that covers the UK. Be careful though, as already mentioned powders are explosive. Also with Ti careful of X-rays if using an electron beam to sinter.

    Hi all attendees:

If anyone is interested in either of these issues, please contact me at the event (or via[masked] / [masked]). I look like the photo but I probably will not be carrying a 3D printed skull.

    1. My company brings 3D technologies into schools, including design, scanning, printing, machining. We are light on the techie side, so if anyone is interested in discussing collaboration, please let me know.

    2. There will be a major and very exciting STEM event for kids, their families, schools and anyone else who is interested in London in 2014. Lasting 8 weeks, Technopop will be situated between Westfield Stratford and the Olympic Park. 3D printing will be a major part of the event and I am organising that aspect of Technopop. We will be looking for sponsors, exhibitors, speakers, demonstrators etc etc for the anticipated 400,000 visitors! I look forward to hearing from you.

Hello, I just found a new company, we could make you an arrurate 3d-printed sculpture from your photos. We use the advanced computational technology to transfer your photos into 3D models. Then add the finest of details to your 3D-model by hand to make them accurate. I wonder whether I can take a few printed-models to display in this meetup and to get some feedback for my product.
