3D Printing Meetup - Scanning and Generating Content to 3D Print

The next 3D Printing Meetup on Tuesday July 9 will be at the Microsoft NERD Center in Cambridge.

The focus of the meeting will be scanning and generating 3d Printable content. I hope to have some input from Microsoft on using their Kinect platform for scanning and robotics.

Also I would like to encourage people to bring along any 3D printed objects that are really stunning and for other members of the group to see. I will arrange for tables to be out to display parts and some labels, business on the cards would be useful.

There is a pay parking lot at One Memorial Drive, it is $10 in the evenings. Nearest T stop is Kendall Square on the Red Line.

Does anyone know where we can get an affordable scan of a small object that we are looking into manufacturing. on a Replicator 2, or where we can see a Replicator2 in action in the Boston area.
Thanks for your help. It's appreciated.

I agree with Jenny. If you can suspend the object in a way that you can photograph it clearly from all sides then 123D catch is probably a great, free solution.

You are welcome to come check out and try printing on my Ultimaker but it's not a makerbot (makerbots as I understand are kind of slow).

    Hi Jenny/George,
thanks for the insights. Please e-mail me at [masked] and we'd be glad to meet with you at your convenience.
We're starting an e-business and there's a small curvy piece that we need for our base, we have prototype that we can use with 123D Catch. We're new to 3d printing and don't know what we're talking about so any insight is greatly appreciated.
We are thinking of buying the Makerbot-Replicator 2 because of affordability and reasonable reviews.
    Thanks again.

There's also free parking after 5pm at the Hayward St lot (any non gated mit parking lot is free after 5pm and Hayward is closest). Park in white spaces, not yellow.

I would be willing to give a short presentation on my "Print Your Head" project. Heck, I'd even be willing to scan some people at the event if they weren't too freaked out by that proposition. :)

Hi Scott, Thank your very much for the offer. I am trying to get someone from Microsoft to talk about the Kinect platform and its application for scanning.
