We are a group dedicated to writing, finishing and publishing a novel or memoir. This is a support group to help writers to plot, create a daily schedule in order to complete their book and get it published through agents and publishers or self-publishing in paperback or eBook form.
The format goes like this: 10 am the library opens. I give a 10 - 15 min chat on the day's subject. I usually bring a hand out. At about 10:15 we begin critiques.
The format for submission is double spaced paragraphs, 1" margins, 12 point times roman or courier font, word or open office format, page number, title/name in header. If you are in the middle of the story, write a single spaced paragraph or two at the head to get us up to speed. There are instructions in a file in the pull down menu above as to how to format a word file. Send submissions to seb4book@aol.com.
We divide the time up by the number of submissions so that the later writers do not get short changed.
We discuss each submission in broad strokes - plotting, voice and style. We do not discuss misspelling, punctuation or mis-matched verbs. They are noted on the file. The first submission gets the first discussion.
The idea is to help other writers. Kindness and support are vital. We don't trash anyone, just guide them toward a better result.
We wrap at about 12:25 to return the room back to its original state.
Submissions are due 11:59 pm on the Monday night before the Saturday meeting. Files are available only to the individuals who RSVP'd to that meeting.
The purpose of this meetup group is to let those who are interested know that with today's technology, everyone has the opportunity to be published. You just have to write and write and write.
Why 3by3? I wrote a book about the 3by3 Writing Method. The group was originally intended to promote the method, but our members liked and needed critiques more than my method, so instead, I have a brief lecture/motivation speech at the beginning on the topic, and then we discuss the numerous submissions.
It is a great group of talented, dedicated writers who take the time to read the many submissions. I am delighted to be associated with them. They make me look good.
