We are a social networking group of young-minded, active, and adventurous men and women over age 40, located in the Central NY area. Our group consists of both singles and couples. There is a saying that "Life begins at 40". There is some truth to this, as 40 seems to be a milestone age at which many people assess where they are in life and hopefully by then they have also gained some useful perspective. From my experience, most people 40 and above have acquired some improved communication skills. In order to be clear about 40+, we are not a dating site. On the other hand, if you should meet someone, and that turns into a long term relationship, that's fine. A few final points of information, and another quote from a friend of mine who reminded me "life is what you make it". If that is so, then you need to take action, come to some events, or post some. Also, though not required, I highly recommend you answer the Profile Questions. Giving your first name and only saying you are looking to meet new people doesn't really give you much of an engaging personality. Last point, this Meet Up and all Meet Ups have a limited digital architecture. I will therefore be building a more robust architecture which will expand the capabilities and options people will have in enriching there lives. I will let all members know more about this in the future.

As a member, what do I get?

As a member of 40+ of Central New York you are part of a group that is totally 40 years old and up. You get alerts on upcoming meet ups, plus you can suggest a meet up which also gets sent to other members. If 2 other members say they are going it then gets posted to the message board.

What type of events can be posted ?

You can post any event as long as its legal. I am hoping we will see a wider array of events this year than in the past. Events that cater to different interests that we have not seen in the past. Personally, I have made more meaningful and long lasting relationships when I have been involved in a cause, as people are more apt to feel passionate about their involvement.

Are there Dues?

Dues will be $6 /year. Dues will be used to pay the MEET UP FEE for the $180 debt incurred over the past year, the similar amount for the coming year, and I am hoping to give awards, probably plaques for most events suggested, most creative event, most attended event, etc I will be setting up a way to pay these dues online.

Why aren't dues voluntary ?

You are getting membership in a Meet UP Group with the benefits previously stated and this has a value and expenses. Voluntary approaches have not worked. A few people end up paying the costs, and that comes down to one or two people paying most of the cost. It is better if there is a minimum cost required by everyone, that can be easily paid. online or in person. If you pay in person you should get a receipt noting the date and to whom the money was given, and should send notification as to who you paid and when by emailing Peter Svoboda at psvobod1@twcny.rr.com   Then I can record all payments in an orderly manner.

What if I don't like the activities of the group, or the direction of the group ?

Decorum

No hurtful behavior will be tolerated. Any such behavior will be cause to have the offending party removed from the list. Only the Organizer can remove anyone from the list. There were 2 occassions in the past when co-organizers, while well meaning removed 2 individuals. When this was looked into, both individuals were reinstated.
