Extra Book-Seattle-March 5, 1pm SWITCHEROO TO Major Pettigrew's Last Stand

  • to
  • Wine Tea Chocolate

3417 Evanston Ave. N. #102, Seattle, WA (map)

    47.650520 -122.351746

  • PLEASE TAKE SPECIAL NOTE OF THIS SWITCHEROO -- aka 'This is why Mo does not run the book club!'

The Orchardist will be a fabulous read one day, but last night I discovered it is not even on Kindle until March 5 (the day we meet) and it is still expensive and in hardcover.  Soooo....needed to come up with an alternate choice.

With the input of Ms. Shannon and the other Extra-Book Book Club in the North, we are doing a SWITCHEROO to Major Pettigrew's Last Stand by Helen Simonson available in hardcover, paperback, audio and Kindle...I even saw on Amazon that it is available in something called 'Unknown Binding", curiouser and curiouser am I!

So sorry for the late choice and the even later SWITCHEROO (I like that word, as you can tell).

See you in a couple of weeks!

MEETING DETAILS: The extra book meetings at Wine, Tea, Chocolate have been successful!

We are going to continue to meet the FIRST TUESDAY each month from 1-3pm.

Again - This is an Extra book and meeting for those that want more Women Wine and Books!

This meeting does not alter or change the primary Seattle Monthly Meetings AT ALL!

If you have any questions, please contact Shannon or Mo.  Thank you!

OK, with only two others coming this week, I am officially not feeling it!
    So, tomorrow is cancelled.
We can reschdule to another date/time/place, or not. Perhaps this is a meetup date and time that just doesn't work for enough book women so the splinter group is just not going to make it. Which is fine, fine, fine. It doesn't always gel. As of right now though, this one is cancelled. I will await further ideas!

If anyone has finished this book -- or is even part way through -- and you find you have some time mid-day tomorrow, please join us at Wine, Tea, Chocolate where the beverages are fine, the food is nummy and the book women are most fabulous!

I can't make this one. I'm in the middle of a project that will take up most of my time next week.

I'm going to attend the North City evening event later this month. I suspect that it's going to work out better most of the time.

Shout out to see if anyone else can make this meetup. In terms of a book club, more is often better -- not too many, but just right is about 8 to 10. Please RSVP if you can make this one!

OK, The Orchardist does not even come out on kindle until March 5th! So, what shall we do? Keep it as the book for this time or pick another and do The Orchardist next month? Ideas, thoughts, chime in please! Thanks! Mo

You could always read Fifty Shades of Gray. I finally succumbed to this on yet another long flight across country. Discussion on why this has become a sensation. May generate more conversation about real life instead of novels however!

Do you all see me doin' the dance of joy here? Well I am. And I don't care if it isn't pretty ;) Looking forward to this!

I copied Lillis' list over here from the other group, just to have it in one place: Ladies,
I narrowed down my extra book choices to four. Here they are Manic by Terri Cheney, The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot, Under Heaven by Guy Garviel Kay and Zeitoun by Dave Eggers. I tried to vary my choices according to some of the group feed back.
    Thanks.

Thanks Mo- It is best to have them all in one place.

I read both of Terri Cheney's books -- they are amazing and I highly recommend them, but I am not sure they are good book club books and frankly, they are too dark for me to read again. But if that is what everyone chooses, that is fine.

The Orchardist Something you also might want to consider is that there have been two extra books chosen from the list already ...the Potato Peel thing and Lots of Candles plenty of Cake. May want to exclude those from the options. Just sayin'

Yeay! Extra books! Yeay Mo for doin the updating and leading the election!

    February 6, 2013

    • Mo

Oh, so many choices! If The Orchardist does not get picked I will read it with you and we can do a very exclusive 2-person book club. :D
