Why I started this Group:

After spending most of my professional life working for some of the largest U.S. corporations, I realized a disturbing fact, companies today are not only laying off an unprecedented amount of older workers but they are also not hiring them. With many of their savings and retirement accounts wiped out due to the current recession, this group has been hung out to dry in the job seeking process. Even worse, the process of finding a job has dramatically changed from applying in person to applying online--where older job seekers are up against thousands of tech savvy young college graduates. Recently unemployed myself, I came to the realization that the 40 and up age group just doesn't get the attention it needs and deserves. I felt that it was time for me to do something about it and make a real difference.

Purpose:

The purpose of this group is to join together and support the unemployed and employed job seekers over 40 who have been negatively impacted by this economy. We want to be the largest Over 40 job networking group in New York City, and eventually the country. This group will meet on a regular basis (monthly or quarterly) to network, share personal stories, and share career advice. Most importantly, we will have fun!!! This group will be open to suggestions by any of its members on where and when to meet.

Who Should Join:

Although this group is open to all ages who want to provide support, we encourage all 40 and up job seekers (employed or unemployed) who have been displaced by today's economy to join. This group also welcomes all job providers who believe they can offer job opportunities or advice.
