You have to start somewhere. This walk/run is ideal for anyone who would prefer to walk a shorter distance or begin to train for a 5K. Located in east Boca, Patch Reef Park features a one mile fitness trail that runs through native scrub or lush landscape. Anyone wishing to go further may go outside the back gate down the Patch Reef Trail.
What to expect: This walk is entirely on concrete, mostly perfectly even. We will walk/jog/run approximately 3 miles by going around the fitness path three times. Everyone will have varying abilities. I will be walking and jogging intervals at a slow pace.
We will meet at 8:00AM and begin at 8:15AM. There is plenty of parking. When you arrive at the park follow the road in and towards the back and look for the picnic area. I will be parked near Picnic Area #4 and the restrooms. I will have a silver Camry with a MeetUp sign.
If you chose to participate in this walk/run you must bring water.
Those who have met me know that I have lost over 40 pounds. Even if you are not certain you can walk a mile much less run a mile I still invite you to join us. Walking can change your life but you have to take that first step. I am glad I did. My first 5K was the Turkey Trot last November and took me 44 minutes. My goal is to do even better on my next 5K and to do a half marathon in December. Check with your doctor before beginning any new exercise routine.
Location: The park is located at 2000 West Yamato Road (1/4 mile west of Military Trail), Boca Raton, FL 33431. If coming from I-95, get off at Yamato Road and head west.
