Join us for a moderate paced hike at Halpatiokee (Seminole for Alligator Waters) Regional Park in Stuart, Fl.
This is a 5.5 mile hike. We will be hiking along side of the scenic, gently flowing and winding South Fork of the St. Lucie River. Part of the hike will be on a Florida Trails Association (FTA) trail with dense Saw Palmetto and Cabbage Palm Trees.
We will walk over small foot bridges. There is a good possibility that we will be sharing the trails with Gopher Tortoises and Sand Hill Cranes. Don't forget to bring your camera.
Directions: Take I-95 to Exit 101 (Rt. 76 AKA Kanners Hwy, heading towards Stuart). Then make a right at Lost River Road (1st traffic light, just after Wendy's and Sunoco gas station). Take Lost River Road (approx. 1 mile) to Park entrance on left side. Make left into park then take first right turn after entering traffic circle. Drive past Tennis Cts. to end of parking area.
We will meet at 9:15 am, print and sign our names on the "Release of Liability" form and then start our hike at 9:30 sharp. Please bring a snack, plenty of water, optional lunch and a smile. I suggest that you wear a hat, appropriate footwear, bring sun screen and insect repellant. Optional lunch after the hike at a covered picnic area. RAIN CANCELS. If unsure of the weather, my phone # is[masked]-7221. Restrooms can be found at entrance to park near the Hockey Pavilion.
