Will you join us for Tea Town?

The above link gets you to the "virtual" hike. We will hike around the lake, that should take about an hour.

We will then head to Croton Point Park, a peninsula on the Hudson River (there may be an entrance fee), which has a very interesting history (see link below), and walk to the top of the man-made hill to see what's growing on (it), and then see if we can find the old wine vault. We can then wander wherever we'd like to.

We will have dinner at Umami Cafe at 5 PM, in Croton on Hudson. See link below:

Madeline, you do realize that the "hill" at Croton Point Park is the result of a Superfund clean up, right?!

I am aware of it, but don't know the history behind it. Its supposed to have some nice plant growth that attracts birds of many kinds. At least that is what someone told me.

Thats' right and in the spring it's full of fields of beautiful wildflowers, birds, turtles and great Hudson views.

Which parking lot at Teatown are you planning on meeting in? The main one is not large and is usually pretty full on weekends. They have additional parking just down the road.

I am only aware of the main lot. Let's hope for the best!
If you'd like to share additional parking info it would be appreciated.

You can see a sign for "additional parking" when you drive up, not coming by the lake, but with the nature center building on your right as you approach it.

This is the fee information page for Croton Point.

I know where the wine vault is. It is always closed. Inside the walls were coated with I think it was a shell based white coating to keep the rooms cool. Each vault has a square hole in the middle of the room again for ventilation. The wine is LONG gone, shucks probably would have been good. LOL

It was a great surprise to discover this lovely nature preserve so nearby. Unknown to me before, I have driven by the access road to Teatown many times. I am very glad to have discovered it and to have had good company to walk with.
