Poker Party ~ Wednesday, January 15th ~ Midweek HUMP day

Okay guys, I have cheat sheets and game play instructions for everyone.  I've also purchased a DVD for beginners.   I foresee a really successful poker night.  You know what they say about "beginners luck".    I've changed the time to 6:00 to allow those of you that haven't played to get familiar with the game of poker.   If you have RSVP'd, PLEASE commit to this event so we have the correct number of players.    We can have a beginners table and a couple of experienced tables.  Get a headstart to see what hands beat what.  Follow the link.    http://www.pokerlistings.com/poker-hand-ranking

Those that know me, know I'll have it setup just right.   Elizabeth will provide chairs.  I'd like to make this a monthly event for men and women.

Food, drink & dress - We'll make it a beer/wine, pizza and chicken wing night.  Everyone can chip in $10 for food/drinks/supplies (video, cards, which we can use again and again). Food will be provided.  Just bring your alcoholic beverages.  If this takes off, maybe other members can host a game monthly.

BANKROLLS ~  Update - bring your own bank of quarters, dimes, nickels.  I'll have a small supply in case you forget but once it's gone it's gone.

Post info, email, call or text me [masked].  Call in the evenings on home phone [masked].

Gale, already checking the calendar. I have to check with our "dealers" as I think they'll be playing next game. We'll limit to 20 so we can bring everything upstairs and spread out between 2 tables. I'm sure next Poker Night will fill up fast.

I would like to personally thank Mike and Dennis for the wonderful job they did in explaining the game of Texas Holdem and really getting into their "dealer" roles, outfits and all. I think everyone that wasn't familiar with the game enjoyed learning something new. Another wonderful evening with great people. Thank you all for the wonderful compliments and your continued participation.

No problem Mike, we're going to make this a monthly game.

      January 14, 2014

  • Ellen F.

I also wound up getting a couple hundred dollars in coin anyway, so if someone doesn't make it to the bank, I'll have rolled coin.

    January 14, 2014

  • Mike

Don't worry about having change. I have jars full of quarters, dimes and nickels. It's a guy thing--we take the change out of our pockets at the end of the day because its too heavy to carry around and put it in jars that we call a saving account to collect dust in a bookcase somewhere. Never ever bringing it to the bank because its just too much trouble to deal with.

POKER PLAYERS ~ Also sent in an email to confirmed guests with my address. IF for any reason you can't make this party, please change your RSVP. I am trying to setup my organization of the room/tables/chairs so I want to be sure we have the correct number of players. Waitlisters - If you would like to come as a backup in case someone doesn't show up, please let me know and I'll arrange it. We'll make room if at all possible.

The DVD for beginners will start @ 6:15 p.m. The 70" TV is set up so we'll take advantage of it.

$35 Cash ~ You don't have to bring any food other than your own beverage (liquor, wine or beer). We'll have everything else and/or we'll order it. Your $15 (cash) will cover food, non alcholic beverages, snacks, supplies, etc. You will also bring (cash) for a buy in of up to $20. I'll have rolls of quarters, dimes & nickels. I've decided against the pennies. Any other info needed, please call me.

I wish I could be put on the Wait List but I have a business dinner that night. Can't wait for the next one. This sounds like a blast!

    1 · January 12, 2014

  • Ellen F.

    Hi all
There are just too many participants for me to buy change for everyone so I'm going to suggest that everybody bring their own coin. Quarters nickels and dimes. That way if someone wants to play $10 $20 or $30 it's all up to you. Please bring a $10 bill to chip in for all the food and snacks. I went to preview the DVD and it's for beginners for Texas Holdem so we will watch that as we get more experienced. Dennis Tebaldi and Mike T will go over the game and explain the game to all the beginners as they are experienced players. Others of us know how to play too. I have cheat sheets and instructions for five card and seven card stud. It's all for fun so let's just sit back relax and enjoy the game.

Everything is well thought out as usual ... thank you Ellen, Mike and Dennis. :)....it will be a fun and relaxing evening for sure!

Dennis T, my cohost has played lots of poker and Mike Has been playing since he was 6 years old. We'll rely on them to set up the experienced table(s). I'm hoping this will become a monthly game with members hosting at their homes each month.

Poker party - Will you be playing dealer's choice? Or just one type of game?

    January 10, 2014

    • Ellen F.

Most are beginners or novices but depending on the number of advanced players at the party, we'll have 1 or 2 tables for them and they can do dealers choice. You're still on the wait list so let me know if you want to commit and I'll change your RSVP so you will attend. This has been on our schedule for awhile and I haven't heard from several members (even through personal emails to them).

Any other folks in this group prefer gluten-free pizza or snacks? (Oh, no, one of those... LOL) Seriously, trying hard to go gluten free, so if there others who are of the same mind, maybe we can chip in. Not a requirement - I will eat regular pizza if you insist (!), but throwing this out there to see what happens...

Am SO looking forward to this!

Dennis Tebaldi has agreed to cohost this event with me. Thanks Dennis!! He tells me he knows a little something about the game.

The DVD arrived today. Be sure to arrive @ 6 p.m. if you want to learn how to go home with some cash.

I'm just going to ask that you bring your own beverage of choice (if it's alcoholic). We usually wind up with so much food at our events, that we will forego bringing food. We'll just order pizza's and chicken wings (I've asked Mike to pick those up. He brought some to the Bad Santa Party and they were delicious). I'll get diet/regular soda, ice tea, lemonade, water and some sweet stuff.

    Happy New Year!!!!!!!
Hey fellow poker players and wanna be players. I've purchased a dvd for beginners. I'm going to change the start time to 6:00 pm. so anyone interested will have time to view this and get familiar with how to play.......... You know what they say about "beginners luck". As of this morning, we have 16 players plus me. I'm going to up the number to 20, so if you're on the waitlist you will be notified.
PLEASE commit to this evening so we have the right mix. Email will follow.

Great idea for a meetup. I would love to play.
Unfortunately Wednesdays don't work for me. It's my volunteer night. Have a great game.

Only played a fee times several years ago. Could use a refresher if u r having one, but not a requirement.

    1 · December 10, 2013

    • Ellen F.

We could do that. We'll have 2 tables of 4 and if more join, hopefully another table. I haven't played in years but I'll have plenty of info and we'll all learn or relearn together. We can decide on a buy in amount too. Nothing hefty but you just can't play poker without some cash involved. It wouldn't be American!
