Superbowl Party #1 (Ellen's house)

Super Bowl XLVIII: Bronc

Broncos vs. Seahawks  in New York is a dream game for NFL

This one has everything, from major star power to intriguing story lines, but most importantly it features the two best teams in the league. The Denver Broncos (15-3) have the best offense in NFL history and the Seattle Seahawks (15-3) have the best defense in the league.

Superbowl Party #1 (Ellen's)  Another reason for a party!!  Unless you want to sit in a bar, come and join us!!  We'll keep it simple with traditional superbowl fare ~ Hot dogs, beans, potatoe salad, cole slaw, chicken wings, pizza, chips/dips, beer & wine and some desserts.  Kickoff is 6:30 p.m. but arrive anytime after 5 p.m.

On the main level we'll be viewing the game on a 70" flatscreen.  Many of you were at my place for the Bad Santa party so you know the setup.  I'm going to move furniture around and bring the furniture from downstairs to the main level so we can ALL cheer together.  I'd like to ask for a $5 donation from everyone (to be paid at the party) to offset the cost.  I hope you don't mind.

Additional pool for guests - To get everyone involved, as you arrive you can write down your guess for TOTAL POINTS at the end of the game.  This will be a separate cash pool.  Mike Henry, my cohost for the evening, will collect $2.00 from all attending and we'll payout @ the end of the game to the winner(s).  This pot will be split if there is more than one winner.

Everyone is urged to drink responsibly.  Bring your own beer or wine.

I would like to give Karen a special THANK YOU for hosting the 2nd party. She stepped up to open her home due to the great response from this wonderful group. Divide and conquer .... and we sure did. Between both parties we had over 50 members celebrating Superbowl Sunday and we even skyped with our hike leader, Jim Paine. Extended thanks to Gail Rice and Mike Henry for being our gracious cohosts. First quarter winner was one of our in house poker dealers, Mike T, Second quarter went to Joan, a new member, Third quarter, Mary V. and Patti D took home the final score winnings. Pamela and Mike Henry split a $74 pot at my house for total score and I believe Dennis T our other in house dealer took the total score at Karen's. All in all we just continue to grow as one of the elite meetup groups in our area. Love to all!!

Thanks, yet once more, Ellen, for hosting a great party! A die-hard football fan, even with the blowout I very much enjoyed chatting with old and new friends! re: the photo #10 of "us"... what happens in MeetUp stays in MeetUp! Thank, Mike, for your contributions to this successful party! Thanks, also, to Karen for keeping our group "intact" even though apart.
Looking forward to seeing you all at this Saturday's Hike in Meriden! - Rob P.

  • Rob P.

I very much enjoy the social ambiance & mingling of SB parties, but I'm also a huge fan of actually "getting into" the actual game, not just the commercials, w/o folks standing and chatting in front of the TV. Since I plan to plant myself watching the game during the action, I'd be more comfy bringing a yoga mat & wedge pillow and simply sprawl out on the floor. This allows more folks watching w/o blocking the view of those sitting in chairs behind, a la tier seating in theaters. I'd not mind whether upstairs huge TV or downstairs w smaller screen(s). If enough folks brought wedge pillows / yoga mats, perhaps fit more folks in? Perhaps designate downstairs "sprawl out" to die-hard football fans whi can focus on seeing and hearing the game w fellow "serious NFL fans", leaving the big screen upstairs to the folks preferring to sit occasionally or graze and check in periodically while standing and chatting loudly in the background?
