Walk the Vanderbilt Motor Parkway then Picnic and Games

WHAT: Let's walk a beautiful, green and lush 2 mile stretch of the Vanderbilt Motor Parkway and back for a total of 4 miles followed by a picnic in the park + assorted board and/or card games + frisbee, football toss, tennis, sunbathing, or whatever else you feel like doing.

If you do not feel like doing the walk, that's ok. Just show up at the park at 1:45pm.

WHEN: Sunday, September 22, 2013 at 11am. We will wait 20 minutes for any latecomers. The walk will commence at exactly 11:20am

WHERE: Alley Pond Sports Center parking lot located at 79-20 Winchester Blvd, Queens Village, NY 11427

PUB TRANS: E or F train to Kew Gardens - Union Tpke stop. Then take Q46 bus located at Union Tpke and Queens Blvd towards Long Island. A little over a 1-hour ride from NYC to destination:

GEAR: Backpack, water, lunch, sunblock, hat, bug repellant, towel or blanket to lay on or chair to sit on, etc.

PACE/DISTANCE: The pace of the walk will be moderate. The distance is 4 miles taking approximately 2.5 hours from start to finish. The terrain is mostly flat with some gradual incline hills, but nothing to worry about.

FACILITIES: Bathroom, water fountains and ample free parking.

HOW TO FIND US: Look for a group of mixed-age people with backpacks standing around getting to know each other in the parking lot

If you have any questions prior to or on the day of the event, please do not hesitate to give me (Beau) a call at [masked]

Sorry I missed this nice hike--11:20 am came and went and I was still on the bus! From Brooklyn I would (now) recommend 2.5 hours to get to Alley Pond Park.
