Greenbelt Nature Center
Hike the Staten Island Greenbelt to the coast of Great Kills Park
LEVEL OF PHYSICAL ACTIVITY: Advanced moderate to Intermediate
Join the Greenbelt educators and National Park Service rangers for a 3-hour hike from forest to field to coastal habitat. The White Trail of the Greenbelt connects to Great Kills Park.
IMPORTANT: This activity is not recommended for beginner hikers or for those who may have difficulty with hiking activity for several miles and several hours.
Please dress appropriately for the weather, wear proper footwear, bring snacks, water, SPF and bugspray. There may be limited restroom opportunities.
PHOTOGRAPHY: Bring your camera to take pictures of beautiful wooded scenery of the Greenbelt and Great Kills Park. There will also be unique waterfront views of Manhattan. Lighting - there should be natural light. Bring camera cases and bags designed for outdoor environments and physical activity.
Feel free to bring binoculars.
NOTE: This 3 Hour Hike is not ROUNDTRIP - If you are driving, you may park at the Nature Center and return at the end of the hike via public transportation. For all other directions, please see below.
CARPOOLING: On your own accord and discretion - you can use the comments section to make your own carpooling arrangements. For carpools, based on the recommendation of the SI Greenbelt Conservancy, some may park their vehicles at the Nature Center and other vehicles parked at Great Kills Park to return roundtrip carpooling from one location to the other.

* Returning to the Greenbelt from Great Kills Park: Take S57 bus on Mill Road and Ebbits Street towards Port Richmond and get off SI Greenbelt Nature Center on Rockland Ave. and Breile Ave.
* Going to the St.George Ferry Terminal from Great Kills Park - take the Staten Island railway (subway) at the Bay Terrace stop to the St.George stop for the ferry.
