Formal Viennese Waltz Dinner, Ball and Dessert Event (1)

All, the National Society of Arts and Letters is having their 5th Annual formal Viennese waltz ball at the Beautiful Cosmos Club in Washington, DC. This is the full evening of Banquet, Ball and delicious dessert buffet.

The evening will begin with a reception with wine and champagne provided by NSAL. Then we will travel through the mansion house halls to the larger formal dining room as we pass through the former private marble decorated smaller dinner room. A wonderful dinner will be prepared by the Chefs at the Cosmos Club. Dine with friends or meet new friends who have traveled around the world.

Thereafter we will join the rest of the non-dining guests in the spectacular sprung wood floor ballroom where you can see the carvings, art and opulent decor of this famous mansion room. Herbert and Carol Traxler will lead the guests in the Grand March within this decorated room under the crystal chandeliers.

I am the host that night and will introduce the Austrian Ambassador or his representative for remarks and they will announce the famous expression "Let the dance begin!!" Midway through the evening we will pause and listen to NSAL award winners performances. The dance evening will continue until about 11:30 PM.

Attire is formal tuxedo for men (long tail formal if you have it or even white tie) and evening gowns for women.

I can reserve a table for 10 at the banquet for our group and put us near the head table.

For dancing, please know that there are married couples who attend and some husbands or wives do not dance.  So their partner is available to be asked.  I would be happy to make introductions.  This is my 5th year for this formal event.

Also, there are rooms in the upper floors of the Cosmos Club you can reserve to more fully enjoy the evening without concern for a return trip home that night.

Beautiful venue, wonderful dinner, wonderful music. Well done, John! Are you planning an encore for next year, now that you have the formula perfected?

Thank you John! Congrats on organizing such an elegant event. Good to see all in our group and made some wonderful new friends. I see you are a good leader in the dance of life as well as waltzing. Take that as a compliment from one in need of Loire dancing lessons

John, is there somewhere to store our dancing shoes during the reception and dinner ... Carrying a shoe bag around really ruins the elegant look I'm going for ...you mentioned a coat room where we could put on our shoes ... Can we store them there as well?

Debbie, when they heard you would be the "centerpiece" I had more requests. I wonder how to put 20 people at a table for 10? lol

Since the table is filled with interesting people, that means you moved me to another table ... Right? <smile>

John are you still going to be able to get a table for us with only 4 of us attending?

Learn the Walt but take it slow and develop your style. Buff for ball.

It is a collection of music that one would hear in Austria. Not all waltzing but no swing music. Women have complained it messes their hair!!!! I can show you the music list.

John, at the ball will we be dancing Viennese Waltz after Viennese Waltz or will there be a mixture of Viennese waltz, regular waltz, foxtrot, maybe a swing dance?

I am reserving a table for our group who are attending. I plan to sit with our group.

Gloves are preferred, except when dancing . To reserve a room call the Cosmos club in DC and our sponsor is Catriona Tudor Erler. Do not know price. Will check.

Thank you, Debbie! I wasn't sure. Considering the time of year, gloves would be warm and appropriate. I can't wait to start the waltz lessons.

    Peggy,

I checked the website pictures of previous balls, some women wore gloves and others did not ... I'm probably wearing gloves.

John, are we ladies required to wear opera gloves with our formal gowns? Also, how do we go about reserving a room for the night, just in case we are too tired to drive home after the ball? What is the charge for staying overnight? My ticket is purchased.

I want to go, but don't want to sit alone. So, I'm not going to RSVP until a couple of other folks indicate they're going. John, I assume that since you're the host that you'll be sitting at the head table. True or not true?

I'm making arrangements this week to take a series of Viennese Waltz lessons, so I'll be dance-ready.

Also, how formal is the formal wear? Do the 'common' women, like me, wear fancy, fancy gowns or just gowns?

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
