Join us this Friday, May 9 for a new approach to 8LU. We will be running multiple events over the lunch hour, and you'll be able to choose from the list below which talk or workshop you would like to attend. We'll cover the new format before getting started this Friday.
Data Structures and Algorithms, Part 2 - Big O Notation and Sorting Algorithms
Speakers: Patrick Gombert and Wai Lee Chin Feman
Description: In week 1 we looked at the tradeoff between Arrays and Linked Lists. We spoke about why, with a classic von Neumann architecture, these two data structures would behave differently in certain circumstances. This week we will explore the language of discussing these differences in a concrete fashion with Big O notation. After covering Big O we will look at sorting algorithms and discuss their characteristics.
Smalltalk - Finding Purpose
Speaker: Paul Pagel
Description: Purpose drives craftsmen. We make for a reason that is deep and unquenchable. This will be an exploration of purpose in the modern craftsmanship scene. What kinds of purpose exist?
