CHWG will have a tent at the NW Book Fair on July 27th in Portland. This event is focused on indy publishers and self-pubbed authors.
We will be promoting books by CHWG members as well as getting the word out about our fantastic critique group. Even if you don't have anything published yet, this is a great opportunity to mingle with fellow authors and see what's out there.
The festival runs from 11-5. We are looking for volunteers to help setup, breakdown and staff the tent. You don’t have to commit for the entire day – the tent probably only holds a few people so we will rotate in shifts.
If you want to have your book(s) promoted, we are asking for a nominal fee of $20 per author to cover costs of registration, the tent and goodies for the wonderful volunteers who will be staffing the tent. No, you do not have to be present - we've got volunteers happy to promote your book for you. It’s a great opportunity to have a presence with the added benefit that you can leave the tent and walk around and see the rest of the authors, publishers and guest speakers. Message Mark, Elizabyth or Vargus for more details if you want to promote your book(s) or volunteer.
Planning details for the NW Book Festival
Authors: The price of an author sponsorship is $20. You do not have to be present to have your book
on the table. The money collected will go towards paying for the space and to defray any
other costs, including promotional materials that we can pass out to advertise our group.
Some money has already been spent and if we are going to print promotional material to
hand out we will need to spend more prior to the event so the sooner people can give money
to Mark, Elizabyth or myself the better.
I have the capacity to accept cards via Paypal. I am willing to provide that service to any sale
Understand that Paypal like any credit service charges a percentage fee. Theirs is 2.7% of the
If you are not going to be present you may want to consider making a one page flier with a
short synopsis and contact information for people to read and or take with them in the hopes
they may decide to purchase at a later date.
Currently we have 5 possibly 6 people who have expressed an interest.
Volunteers: I plan on being present throughout the whole festival as I am the name of record on the
application and the individual supplying the tent. For those who want to help out, the
festival runs from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. but we will have to do a set
up and tear down and so people will be needed to help between 9:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
Space is of course limited inside a 10x10 so I think the best thing to do is to have a sign up
sheet with a minimum commitment of one hour. Preference will be given to authors
sponsoring their book or books. Please do not sign up unless it is a firm commitment. It is
not fair to others when people commit to a limited time slot and then do not show.
In my opinion and based upon my experience three people is about as many people a booth
can comfortably handle and still have room for a table and customers.
