SW (Beaverton, etc) Critique Meeting

We are using a read-aloud format. If you wish to have your work critiqued, please bring a short piece or chapter (about 3-5 double-spaced pages) to read out loud to the group. It can be any genre, including non-fiction or poetry.

You don't have to read - you can show up to listen and critique or just listen. We don't have set time limits on critiques - all we ask is that you be mindful of how many readers are reading after you so that everyone gets a chance to read. This is a public venue so please support it by buying something. :)

Please RSVP so we know who is coming and can grab a big enough table to accommodate all of us.

Could someone explain to me what this comment "We should not have to babysit the emotionally challenged, who cast a pall on a group interaction" is in reference to? I was at the meeting and everyone seemed very nice.

Hi Everyone, It was great to see you during this week's meeting. I'm thinking about submitting an article to a parenting magazine. However, the submission guidelines seem vague. They state, "For all submissions, please email the manuscript in the body of the email to [masked] with 'Submission' and the department (i.e. 'Fiction' 'Essay' 'Feature Pitch') as the subject heading. Please don’t send your submission as an attachment." There's nothing about a query letter or any type of message preceding the essay. This is my first time submitting my work to a magazine. Do any of you have thoughts about what I should write preceding the article?
