Come to the FPOA/AANC STAR B Q

Every year the FPOA holds a fun, tasty and fact filled BBQ with the added bonus to look through one HUGE eyepiece.

SEE THE WONDERS OF THE SKY! After dark you can look through the 30-inch Challenger Telescope and see stars and stuff in the sky as you have never seen them before ... especially if the sky is clear.

This is a GREAT way to meet amateur astronomers and enjoy the fun side of astronomy.

COST: Fremont Peak State Park charges a per-car Day Use Fee. Self-serve pay envelopes are provided in the main parking area. Please use them.

RSVP: If you plan to attend, PLEASE call the FPOA hotline by early August (831)[masked] or e-mail [masked] by Friday, August 2, and leave your name and number of guests. We want to be sure that we have enough hamburgers! Anyone interested in astronomy or Fremont Peak State Park is welcome. You do not have to be a member of a club to attend.

RAFFLE: Lots of prizes and lots of fun.

POTLUCK: Begins at 5:00 p.m. in the area below the observatory. Please bring a side dish, dessert, salad or your favorite dish to share. We will provide hamburgers and fixings, soft drinks and utensils.

GASTRONOMICAL CONTEST: Enter the astronomical-gastronomical contest! Bring a dish having an astronomical theme and maybe you will win a fabulous (?) prize. Entries will be judged based on culinary ingenuity, looks and astronomical relevance! Please enter by 5:30 p.m., by placing your dish— suitably labeled—on the food table. Entries arriving late may be consumed without judging!

TRIVIA CONTEST: The traditional Astronomical Trivia Contest will be held after we eat. And there will be other fabulous (?) prizes for the winners.

I missed the BBQ, and didn't want to carry all my baggage up the hill to the telescopes, so I stayed in the camping area. I took some nice photos. Saw lots of meteors, inluding some non-Perseids. Some seemed to be coming from Aquarius or maybe Lyra?

Anyone else care to ride/share to the Peak? I MAY be going late Friday or most likely early Saturday and return late, late Saturday night to the City & Fisherman's Wharf area.

Let 'em know that you'll be there:

Oh yeah, The Perseids are coming!
