Well Monday evening won out as the best time for everyone to meet, so for now we will plan on meeting the fourth Monday of every month (if we have holiday conflicts, etc. we can discuss rescheduling for a specific month).
Hopefully you have found a version that works for you! Many folks shared suggestions in the comments if you're still looking.
For our first gathering, it would be nice to briefly share some time to get to know one another, and I liked Mar's suggestion to do the Proust questionnaire! Vanity Fair listed this one a while back: http://www.vanityfair.com/culture/features/proust-questionnaire
Bring your answers and I'll try to think of some fun and quick way to get through them together (suggestions welcome!). Other than that, just be prepared to discuss the sections listed, and please feel free to bring discussion questions, suggestions for the group, etc. I don't want to spend too much time on "group logistics" during our meeting, so we'll save them for the end of the time.
Thanks everyone! Looking forward to it.
I'm coming from Redwood City--will take the San Mateo bridge. Can take someone with me.
PS: no one ever calls me Roberta. I've been P since I got out of high school.
BTW--these are all free on iBooks. If you like to use your iPad to read.
Is there any consensus on which is the best translation to read?
Yeah, I think it would be a good idea if we all read the same translation and edition. If possible.
But on the other hand, it might be interesting to compare translations.
I don't think it matters if our editions/translations are slightly different.
When we did it the first time, we used the old Vintage edition. Since then, I've really liked the Vintage Library version.
Has anyone seen the Monty Python skit on Proust?

Mike is absolutely right, Paintings by Proust is a wonderful addition that really makes the references come alive.
logistical question...if one is interested in having dinner, should that be completed prior to the onset of the meeting, or can we dine during the meeting?
Will anyone be coming from the city?
