Objective Tips

Starting at 6:30pm, we'll have free food sponsored by TechSmith. Please RSVP to help us estimate how much food we need. While you are enjoying the food, talk with other developers and network in the local Cocoa community.

Our main meeting will start at 7pm.  Based on the overwhelmingly positive feedback, it will feature a roundup of tips from our community of Cocoa developers.

Eric Shapiro, Dan Hibbitts, Chris Adamson, Dave Koziol and many more have all promised to show something to improve your development experience, and you can join in too.  At the end of the evening we'll vote on the best tip and award an awesome prize.  So, get your tip ready, and we'll see you on Thursday night (3/14).

We're always looking for volunteers to talk at future meetings, so please consider volunteering.

    Notes from my tips are as follows:

    Mouseposé - http://www.boinx.com/mousepose/overview/
    (available in the Mac App Store)

    Apple's docs on creating custom code snippets
    http://developer.apple.com/library/mac/#recipes/xcode_help-source_editor/CreatingaCustomCodeSnippet/CreatingaCustomCodeSnippet.html

    My code snippet for getting a background queue and responding when finished on the main thread -

    dispatch_queue_t myBackgroundQueue =dispatch_get_global_queue(DISPATCH_QUEUE_PRIORITY_DEFAULT, 0);
    dispatch_async(myBackgroundQueue, ^{
    // in the background // meanwhile back on the main thread...
    dispatch_async(dispatch_get_main_queue(), ^{

    });
    });

    And the lame Alert snippet -

    [[[UIAlertView alloc] initWithTitle:@"<#Title#>"
    message:@"<#Message#>"
    delegate:self
    cancelButtonTitle:@"Cancel"
    otherButtonTitles:nil] show];

    Objective Tip: Here is the build script that you can add to your build phase of your project that will cause all your TODO comments to show up as warnings. Cut and Paste this and build...
    KEYWORDS="TODO|ToDo|TODO:|FIXME:|\?\?\?:|\!\!\!:"
    find "${SRCROOT}" \( -name "*.h" -or -name "*.m" \) -print0 | xargs -0 egrep --with-filename --line-number --only-matching "($KEYWORDS).*\$" | perl -p -e "s/($KEYWORDS)/ warning: \$1/"

    The location is still at Arbormoon, for some reason it didn't set correctly, but I fixed that earlier.

    Is the location not at ArborMoon this month?
