Wellness Wednesday Virtual MeetUp

  • May 14, 2014 · 9:00 AM
  • This location is shown only to members

At A2C2, we believe your health is your wealth. We also believe that all of us, whether Couch Potato or Olympic Athlete, can and should improve our health. Further, we know that probably 60 to 70 of our 407 Members are in the Health and Wellness Industry, and have great knowledge services, products, programs, and health tips to share with the rest of us.
Many of you will recall our Wellness Workshop With Wine, this past September, as well as our Healthy Networking MeetUps that we have done from time to time.
This NEW Virtual MeetUp Series adds a cool dimension to the Wellness topic, whereby we will meet in Virtual Reality, share what we're doing, or trying to do to improve our health, and A2C2 Members who are in the industry will help moderate the discussion, and offer their insights to benefit everyone in the group who RSVP's to our virtual event.
This First, Kick-off event will focus on health improvement goals. You'll get the opportunity to share your goals, whether it's to lose weight, run your first 5K, run a triathalon, walk 10,000 steps a day, whatever.
Getting support and tips from others is good. Accountability to the group and from the group is also good. This will be a fun event, you can participate from wherever you are, and we will see where it leads.
The basic idea is to focus on your health each Wednesday, share what you're doing, or want to do. Pose any questions you might have in the event comments section, and see where it goes. Lets improve our health, have some fun, and celebrate our successes at our in-person MeetUps.
I look forward to seeing you there!

I had exercised regularly for 25 years, and then had a couple of life events that got in the way, and I 'temporarily' stopped--unfortunately temporary has turned into 8 years, and an extra 20 pounds. My goal is to get back into a regular exercise routine that will benefit me but not be so strenuous as to aggravate my back.

Guess I'd better read the Power of Habit!

Hi Donna, sorry I missed you last week. How are doing with return to exercise? Have you found a direction in which to move? If not, this sort of thing is exactly what I specialize in as a physical therapist in holistic practice. I don't think we are supposed to directly advertise here, so I hope I'm not over stepping etc.. But I'd be be happy to chat with you - brief phone conversation perhaps to see if there is anything I can help you with. Look me up online - google my name etc, contact me if you wish. Or feel free to ask specific exercise questions here and I'll try to answer if I can

I have a question for Molly, when she jumps on. I'm going to try a detox drink of water with lemon, lime, cucumber, and mint. Do you think this has any real value?

Hi Brian, I'm actually responding to last weeks thread! Wondering how it comes up in the virtual setting - mixed with this weeks topics ? Anyway, wondering if you've tried this detox and how you're feeling with it? As far as it having any real value - it may depend on what you wish to detox - just a general, or specific liver, or kidney flush etc. there are specific nutrients that may support leaching of toxins from specific organs. In any case the ingredients you mention certainly would be beneficial in general nutritional support and maybe specific areas - of course you would want at the same time to be eating in a balanced way so the nutrients can pull from the lodged toxins alteady in the body and not just be pulling out the days overload. Again, I am not a nutritionist so this is a response based on readings, workshops, personal and professional connections over the past 10 years. Dr Andrew Weil of course is a great resource as well as many others.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. This is a great platform to learn how to improve your health and fitness from great, giving professionals like Lynda, Evan, and Molly. I appreciate the feedback, and it has helped me get back on track with my goals, and stay more accountable.

I also want to thank Lynda for the book recommendation of: "ThePower of Habit" by Charles Duhigg. I got it from the library, am about 100 pages in, and finding it hard to put down. Excellent so far. Thanks Lynda!

Hi Everyone, and yes, welcome newcomers! My apologies, I have another meeting - thought I could do both, but not working... I intend to respond however if possible when I return around 1. Catch you later! Molly

Hello to all, and welcome to newcomers.

Thanks Lynda, trying to do too much is usually my downfall. When I was dedicated, I did challenging workouts with weights. I know I need to start small, but the past habits kick in. Your advice helps to reinforce the 'start small' process.

Brian, Molly knows more in this area than I do, but I think cucumber has some anti-inflamatory properties, more water is almost always good, and I've heard about citrus being alkalinizing, but I don't really know whether that's actually valuable or not. I'd say try it, if you feel good with it, keep doing it!

    Hi everyone!

As for me, I've reset some goals, have been more diligent with my food log, and overall more committed to eating better and exercising more consistently.

So we should welcome Donna, who just joined A2C2, and welcome Nancy to her 1st virtual MeetUp. What questions do you have? What H&W goals do you have? What would you like to learn or try?
