DESSERT POTLUCK:

We know, it's a little cliche, but with such a sweet "holiday" in the middle of the month, we figured why not stretch it out to last the whole month? Why not make it the celebration of the event and not just the end of a meal? And since we love a good challenge, what better theme of food as dessert is not limited to sweets but includes a wide variety of food including cakes, cookies, biscuits, gelatins, pastries, ice creams, pies, puddings and candies. Show off your cooking (or non cooking) skills and bring a dish to be sampled by all. There will be a no pressure anonymous paper slip vote by those that attend the event (you can vote even if you don't bring a dish) to determine the night's favorite dessert (and prize winner).

THE PRIZE:
Kevin has generously offered to make the winner (determined by votes of people at the event) homemade ice cream in a flavor of their choice. FYI, Kevin has made fried-chicken ice cream & bacon chocolate sorbet in the past, so please do feel free to push the limits of your imagination when making your selection. ;)

The CHALLENGE:
The Challenge is a month long focus on one particular project or material. It's a chance to break out of your comfort zone and learn some new skills and provide ample opportunity for topics of discussion. On the last day of the month, we'll meet somewhere to show off our awesome projects, pick a winner (oh yeah, there's totally a prize involved), eat and mingle.

THE VENUE:
TBD

Hehe. Sorry Jeannette! It's been a crazy week. Thanks for the offer. If you think the coming snow may be in an issue (like cars tearing up your yard) let me know and we can move this to my place.

Possibly bringing one guest who will probably be totally freeloading on our awesome desserts!

I have my ingredients, and am about to commence dessertification. I plan on having plenty, so don't feel bad if you can't/won't/don't want to/dare not get around to making something.

Denise, I would think you can bring whatever if you'd like if you want to show it off and talk about it. I look forward to seeing people at Sarah's apartment or Jeannette's house or wherever we end up.

    Hi Sarah, Kevin and all..

I can't cook with a darn, but would be happy to offer my house in Ann Arbor as a venue or the event...

306 Mulholland St., Ann Arbor, MI 48103
There is free parking available in my yard!

I enjoyed meeting the group recently at A2 Ypsi DIY Meetup at Corner Brew Pub in Ypsi, and tho... I am such a lousy cook that I could only manage to make coffee for the group, and with assistance at that, there is plenty of crafty inspiration floating around my house, including 25 years of my own A2 DIY, and I would love to share!

I really enjoyed the Challenge concept, as it got me thinking about how to utilize "plarn", and... I also enjoyed meeting other crafters at the Brew Pub Meetup Event who were working on independent projects, and the inspirational factor was priceless!

Let me know if you want to take me up on the offer of a venue!
    Sarah, my phone number is[masked]-5787.

    Best,
    Jeannette

I haven't participated in any events here yet so I'm not too familiar with how these challenges work. So this month's challenge--are we all doing our own particular project or will everyone be working on the same thing? I do have a project that I plan to continue working on this month but it's not something new to me. So this wouldn't count?

The dessert potluck at the end of the month sounds like fun.

:) Hi Denise, thanks for the question! The Challenge is a new event idea and we've only done January so far. The goal of it is to give the group a similar thing to work on throughout the month, either a specific project or a theme or a material. Ideally there will be events during the month that reinforce the skill or at least give people the opportunity to meet and talk tips/tricks with others in the group. At the end of the month we'll get together, show off our efforts, vote for a winner (for a little prize and bragging rights) and then pick the challenge for the next month. So this month's "Dessert Potluck" is a lot more open to interpretation, as there is a wide variety in what you can make for it (candy, cookies, cake, jello, drinks, etc). And of course people can just show up to hang out and not make anything to be entered for the challenge, but hopefully lots of people will bring a dish to share.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
