Star Wars: Edge of the Empire

Ready to explore the fringes of space? On Sunday, August 18th, join me for an adventure across the galaxy in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire!

Star Wars: Edge of the Empire is the latest Star Wars tabletop role-playing game (RPG). Taking place shortly after Episode IV: A New Hope, in Edge of the Empire you take on the role of the smugglers, scoundrels, and scum that reside outside the expansive Galactic Empire and the brewing civil war with the Rebellion.

I've got room for up to six players. We'll be playing the adventure in the core rulebook, "Trouble Brewing," so if you have the core book, NO PEEKING! Alternately, if anyone has the Star Wars Beginner Box and is willing to loan it to me for study, I would be willing to run the adventure in that, instead.

May the Force be with you!

Good afternoon, Ed. I've got a character created I'd like to get your approval on it. there are two items I need approval on. First I took an extra 10 obligation to obtain an extra 2500 starting credits. Second, I purchased an Electronic Lock Breaker, which is normally restricted. I think my back story will explain both. Can you contact me to send me an email addres? I'll send the character and backstory over to you. 5 pages total in Word.

      Sure! Send it to [masked]!

I know this is kind of a lame concession, but those of you on the waiting list are welcome to join us, hangout, and watch the game unfold. I can't accept any players beyond six though (it would spread the game just too thin and no one would have any fun).

by the way, trying to order the book now, will we start off with lvl 1 characters? any house rules to know about, and do we need a tactical grid? and for those of you who don't have dice, i found a real good and reacl cheap dice roller on google play. only $1, and you can add the dice you need, will share the link when i get there. also, i thought about bringing a sandwich platter from subway, let me know if that's good.

    August 13, 2013

    • Ed G.

Yes, Joey, are characters will be standard beginning characters. I am currently hand-making some pregens for the group, but you're more than welcome to make your own at home, if you're so inclined.

      August 14, 2013

    • Ed G.

And a sandwich platter would be delicious and appreciated!

Hey everyone! Still waiting for word on if the community room in my condo community is going to be available. If it's not available, I have reserved the conference room at Pohick library as a back-up. I'll let you all know for sure once I get confirmation.

Also, please be sure to change your RSVP if you change your mind about going. I've had quite a few people ask about this, so it would be a bummer if I had no-shows this weekend.

No one has posted about bringing snacks, so from previous experience I'm guessing people will bring chips, crackers, and possibly cookies. Beverages and actual food tend to get forgotten, so if you're thinking of what to bring, keep those in mind! Again, it is NOT required that you bring anything, however.

I'm looking forward to meeting you all and gaming on the edge of the empire!

    August 12, 2013

    • Mark D C.

Will there be a time set aside to order take out? You are right on the "low actual food" angle.

      August 12, 2013

    • Ed G.

Crystal the official policy is no drinking in the room...but there's no one to enforce it, so as long as you "drink responsibly," I think you'll be fine. Mark, there's a full kitchen, fridge and all, so feel free to bring anything you want (I'm a coke man, myself). There will be plenty of time for breaks, so yes we can definitely order from any of a variety of places in the area.

A Heroic Hello to you all. I am the +1 guest for Dan Osborn. I couldn't log in from work do I solicited his assistance. I will be bringing one basic role book and one set of dice. Do we need any more dice? Minis? Ships? Music (CDs)? I'll bring some snacks as well, but I'll let others call out what they want to bring before I call anything. Count on Osborn to bring little carrots. Looking forward to trying out the FF system. It is very different than the D20 I'm used to. - Mark

Thank you, Ed. I appreciate you putting this meet-up together. I've been looking forward to testing out this system since I saw the Beta. I'd recommend you put together pregens. This is a one shot and not the beginning of a campaign. One objective for this meeting is to get a feel for the system, sort of like taking a test drive. We don't need to learn how to build the car first, we just need to learn where the steering wheel and gas pedal is and then hit the road. Corporate character generation with limited rule books and an unfamiliar system will take more time than it is worth.

(Apparently hitting enter sends the note) If you want to maximize choice, you can pregen a few extra characters so there is a broad mix of flavor options.

I have the Beginner Box, but looks like you're all full

    August 6, 2013

    • Ed G.

Yep; I can't believe this filled up so fast! Never under-estimate the power of Star Wars fans...

Stay on the waiting list. Alot can happen in two weeks!

      August 6, 2013

  • Crystal

I've never played this before...I have played a Dungeons and Dragons RPG when I was a kid. Do you think it will be easy to learn for a beginner?

    August 5, 2013

    • Ed G.

Crystal, bringing new players into the hobby is my specialty! You will have a great time. And personally, I think this particular game is great or beginners...strong emphasis on collaborative storytelling, no math (there aren't even numbers on the dice!), cinematic action...

I'm going to go ahead and say it, Crystal...I GUARANTEE you will have a great time!

      August 5, 2013

  • Ed G.

It is NOT a requirement to play, but bringing food, snacks, or drinks would be a great idea. Post here if you're going to bring something, so we don't end up with tons of soda and no chips!

    August 5, 2013

  • Joey

its been awhile since I played any Star Wars RPG looking forward to it please let me know if you need any extra goodies such as miniatures dice etc

    August 5, 2013

    • Ed G.

We're going to have a great time, Joey! Welcome aboard!

Edge of the Empire uses special, custom-made dice. If you research the game a little bit and decide you like it, you may want to spend some money for the dice. You've got three options:

      August 5, 2013

    • Ed G.

You could buy the dice from a hobby shop or online for $15.

For five bucks more, you could get the Beginner Game, which includes the same amount of dice as the dice pack.

Or, if you have an iPhone or Android phone, you can get the Star Wars dice-rolling app for $5.

You do NOT need to get anything to play, but if you want to bring something, dice would be most helpful.
